Alabama Raven
Emerald eyes and long dark tresses
Lengthy legs and short sundresses
Inklike swirls in cascading hair
Stand out from skin so fair
The leisurely lilt in her accent causes a quickness in my veins
It billows through my mind like the wind across a sea of uncut grains
Clumsy in conversation but graceful in form
She’s beautiful and dangerous like a summer storm
And the lightning flashes like her smile
Promising a hint of guile
But the subtle simplicity of her Southern charm
Will repudiate any sense of alarm
And I press my face into her onyx mane
Like a canary in a coal mine looking for danger in vain
I want the rise and fall of your chest to rock me to sleep
I want to feel the drops on my neck if you should ever weep
I want to be the first thing you breathe when you awake
And when you leave I want to be the last thing that you take
Alabama raven, you’re the one that I adore
So when you look into my eyes, don’t say nevermore
