But I Do

Guilt is on my conscience and blood is on my hands
But nobody ever understands
And I’ll never list out my demands

Cause momma smokes and daddy drinks
But no one ever stops and thinks
About the child for more than two quick blinks

And I would beg on both my knees
If somebody could just please
Take away these memories

The rent money’s gone down the drain
Cause I tried to drink away the pain
But it only loosened the shackles not the chain

And you might not need a shot or two
Just to help you make it through
But I do
