Checkmate
The board is in place, the pieces are set
We both looked up and our gazes met
You had the white set I had the black
I played defensive, you went on the attack
Your promises were always broken
By the lies you’ve spoken
You captured my queen first, big surprise
It wasn’t hard to catch her with your web of lies
You went after a couple of pawns and captured a rook
Eerily reminiscent of the money you took
Your knight takes a bishop, your queen invades
I knock off a few pieces, my king evades
You don’t even have to try to ruin my health
Ever since you left I’ve been doing it myself
I poured my heart out and poured liquor back in
I started smoking and cut through skin
We thought we lived in a fairytale but now there’s no smiles or laughter
I kissed you but you didn’t wake up and live happily ever after
It’s strange
The way things change
If one of my pawns can make it all the way across the board
It can change just like you did, a player can be restored
My pawn succeeds, the turning point in this war
I got my queen back and it doesn’t look like you anymore
You say you never hold a grudge but this time you can't win
You should hold on to this one, it's the only thing you'll ever hold against me again
Your remaining pieces decline one by one
Checkmate, it's over, the battle is won
It was just as easy as taking your picture off the shelf
I didn’t even have to beat you, you defeated yourself
