Leave My Flowers Behind
My keys jingle in the lock and I finish my cup
All the lights are off, it’s late but you’re still up
We apologize for words that were unkind
Go into our room and leave my flowers behind
The doctors come into the room
They confirm what I assume
They apologize and the papers are all signed
I go home and leave my flowers behind
The graveyard’s gloomy in the rain
My only companion is my pain
I apologize, no other statements spring to mind
So I pick myself up and leave my flowers behind
