Forbidden Fruit
Don't marry a girl who wants a strawberry
To bloom in January
It’s important to wait until the right time
But he who likes cherries must learn to climb
The higher the tree, the sweeter the plum
But the longer you wait, a prune will eventually come
And if you try and cherry-pick the one you want to mate
You might find that it becomes hard to find a date
So when she steps into the limelight
I heard through the grape vine don’t notice the blight
And don’t be afraid if your cream begins to clot
Because some sour grapes have a noble rot
A tree that bears no fruit will still provide shade
And when life gives you lemons make lemonade
But if it’s as bare as the savanna
And drives you bananas
If the fruit of your labor is the worse for wear
And you’re apples and oranges, don’t try to be a pair
Even if you were married in a mighty fine chapel
Only the knife knows the heart of the pineapple
But the most important thing I have to tell
Is extending the olive branch breaks the coconut’s shell
And when you may feel like it was all for naught
Don’t forget when you're green, you're growing and when you're ripe, you rot
It took a very long winter for me to understand
That love is a fruit in season at all times and within reach of every hand
