I have worked the door at several nightclubs and associated myself with a lot of people who do the same thing over the last 6 years. Allow me to tell you how 95% of encounters go when a white doorman tells a non-white patron that they will not be allowed entry to the club based on dress code.
Step 1. The patron will try to intimidate their way into getting what they want by dropping into a more stereotypical image of how they think the doorman perceives them in an attempt to, “Scare Whitey” (This is not my phrase). This includes exaggerated movement and dropping more fully into an accent or ebonics. At this point in time they are probably in violation of a couple of laws, namely trespassing, disorderly conduct, public intoxication, and assault (You don’t actually have to strike someone to be charged with assault).
Step 2. The rational appeal. Intimidation works in most situations where white people are concerned, but most doormen who give in to intimidation don’t keep their jobs too long. Then the rational appeal comes in. The patron will try to befriend the doorman in an attempt to speak to them on their level and kill them with kindness. Haggling also usually occurs. “What if I pull my pants up, tuck my shirt/chain in, take my gold teeth out, etc…”
Step 3. Bribery. “What if I give you [X amount] of dollars?”
Step 4. Repeat Step 1 and increase anger. At some point someone with them will offer to take them home to change and we will tell them that it’s too late since they’ve already threatened us with violence. Now they will not get in no matter what they wear. They will threaten to call news and/or police. At this point they will start a fight, leave, or summon a police officer who will invariably explain the private property laws to them and ask them to leave (You can basically throw anyone out for anything. I threatened to throw a guy out two nights ago if he didn't stop besmirching the good name of Tim Tebow and an old employer of mine once made me kick a guy out because he smelled bad).
It’s only slightly different when the doorman is black. They will throw words out like, “Uncle Tom”, “Oreo” (Black on the outside, white on the inside), and my personal favourite, “Bitch ass nigga”.
This is what I’ve read about students from Washington University. In 2007, Washington University received 22,428 applications for 1,338 spots at the undergraduate level. The acceptance rate for the Class of 2011 was 19%. More than 90% of incoming freshmen were ranked in the top 10% of their high school class. Also in 2006, the University ranked fourth overall and second amongst private universities in the number of enrolled National Merit Scholar freshmen, according to the National Merit Scholar Corp.'s annual report. Currently, the undergraduate program is ranked 12th overall, tied with Northwestern University, and 11th in admissions selectivity, in the 2010 U.S. News & World Report National Universities ranking. Additionally, 19 undergraduate disciplines are ranked among the top 10 programs in the country. Globally, its rankings include 28th place in the Academic Ranking of World Universities by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2006 that assesses the quality of scientific research leading toward a Nobel Prize.
This is a school that demands excellence. A school with rich history and class. A school who’s own Student Union set up a $25 All You Can Drink special at Original Mother’s bar encouraging alcohol abuse amongst its’ student body. Now knowing what we know about how most dress code encounters go down let’s see what they say happened on that fateful day in Chicago.
Now that sounds awfully close to exactly what I described, and even includes that he actually brushed up against the manager while walking away (Unwanted contact is a form of assault. He conveniently left out how they all crowded the manager and he bumped into him in His Account
Let’s delve into his story a little further. First off, the claim that he switched pants with a white student who was allowed entrance.
Now obviously these are not the same pants. The pants on the right do not have the horizontal lines near the top that the pants on the left have. Pants B also don’t have the crease running down the center of both legs of Pants A. In addition, the fading is different and the crotch sewing and pockets are different, and Pants A are just obviously larger in general. Clearly, this asshole is lying.
Now let’s take the expert eyewitness account or Fernando Cutz, seen here raping Funshine Bear. Nice rainbow...
President Elect of the alcoholism encouraging Student Government. He claims that of the 200 students already admitted, none were non-whites. Now, to me if your senior class has 200 white students and 6 black it sounds like Washington University is racist, not Original Mothers. But I digress… So Fernando was inside, then went outside during the problem, and then told reporters that there were no non-whites inside. Problem is, Fernando Cutz isn’t white, he’s Brazilian (Bang up job CNN. The name Fernando didn't clue you in?). Now I know I’m splitting hairs here, he looks white to me too, but if the issue is racism than no, Brazilian doesn’t count as white. More importantly, the few Brazilians I know are proud Hispanics who would be offended to be called white.
In addition to the several other lies already pointed out, Photo A clearly shows blacks, Hispanics, and Douchebags inside Original Mothers, thus further deflating the racism argument.
A racist doorman wouldn’t allow a non-white entrance occassionally. They hate ALL non-whites (Even Brazilians). Now, I wasn’t there and I don’t know the manager or doorman at Original Mothers, but this seems like another case of people shouting racism when really they acted like idiots. Here’s a little tip though. If some place doesn’t want you there then don’t go in to prove a point and give them your hard earned money. Fuck that place. I’m sorry you dress like shit but deal with it properly by either not dressing like a complete fucktard or going somewhere else. It’s that simple. A guy told Randy he couldn’t go in a place one time with $150 jeans on because they had holes in them. Randy didn’t say the guy wouldn’t let him in because he was white. He said, “Fuck that place, let's go suck some dick”.
Allow me to let you in on a little secret here, doormen don’t really want to keep you out of their clubs. Even if you are out of dress code. We want white collar money, blue collar money, and baggy pants money too. A dress code is just a convenient tool used by doormen to perform an attitude check. I let people in out of our dress code all the time if they have a good attitude. I have let people in that my manager chewed my ass about. But guess what, I know for a fact that none of them have been thrown out for misbehaving. So next time you go out and somebody tells you that you can’t come in just smile and say, “OK man, see you next time” or better yet, “What do I need to change so that I can come in next time?” Bouncers deal with dicks all night every night. When someone isn’t a dick it usually gives us this warm and fuzzy feeling that causes us to want to be nice to the person responsible for that rare feeling of polite euphoria.
Personally I think it’s appalling that the staff of Original Mother’s has had to agree to sensitivity training rather than risk a long law suit and bad PR. I don’t know what people expect, us bouncers ain’t supposed to be smart anyway. Right?
