Recess
I remember when I was caught
Playing she loves me, she loves me not
As one by one the petals hit the ground
During red rover I’ll take your hand
If it will help you understand
How much you can say without making a sound
And if we play hide and seek
I promise I won’t take a peek
Until you’re sure you’re ready to be found
I can play king of the mountain
Or take a sip from the water fountain
Until my queen is ready to be crowned
And we can catch fireflies in jars
Or hold on tight to monkey bars
Your free spirit never could be bound
Or we could go for quite a ride
Together down the curly slide
We can see how tightly it is wound
Who knows what this life will bring
When I climb into your tire swing
Let’s get dizzy on the Merry-Go-Round
And I hope that you won’t skin a knee
If you come and blow bubbles with me
I’ll hold you up until the see-saw’s downed
And if you wouldn’t mind too much
I’ll bring a friend for double dutch
We can play until we hear the bell’s sound
And it was worth shoes full of rocks
Cause there’s buried treasure in your sandbox
It’s recess and your body is my playground
