The Ride
One night it was you and me
Talking about what might be
And you said you were afraid
That we would get old and fade
And never leave the place we were born
And that’s when we heard the horn
Of a car driving by at sixty-five
People screaming sounding so alive
And we caught each other’s eye
And we left without saying goodbye
To anyone we just hopped on in
Time for this snake to shed it’s skin
You got a car and I got the money
We both laughed but it wasn’t funny
And we left your parent’s house in the dust
A deer jumped out and we both cussed
But we missed him and avoided disaster
And I said go faster
And with the windows down and the scent of June
I said, “I don’t know where we’re going but I hope we get there soon”
And we both hoped the feeling would last
And we drove so fast
That streetlights looked like shooting stars of green, yellow, and white
We just passed a red one but I don’t see any blue so I think we’ll be alright
