"The Cooling Off"

I wrote this after a fight with Jon, my best beloved. We were separated at this time. I had moved back home under parental order to start my college life anew. This was one of the most difficult times in my life. I was grateful to my parents for having saved me from throwing my education in the toilet. At the same time I hated them for taking away the very thing that was hurting me; my social life.
Now, of course, I love them for what they did.
Sorry for the long aside. "...I keep tripping on the past." as Cyndi Lauper says. Anyway, this poem was written after a fight with Jon.
March 31, 1994

"I'll take you to the end of the world,"
you said.
And then you'll push me off.
I know. Cold.

"So take that and shove it up your bum,"
you said.
And you sincerely meant it yesterday.
I know. Cold.

"You can cry about it if it'll make you feel better,"
you said.
And then you hung up the phone.
I know. Cold.

"You're lying to yourself and me,"
you said.
And you were right about the second part.
I know. Cold.

"I feel like the side plate,"
you said.
And you didn't know the half of it.
I knew. So cold. So cold.
