Standard Emergency Warning Signal (SEWS)
The Standard Emergency Warning Signal (SEWS) is an Australian wide emergency warning signal that is used by the media to warn the public of an impending disaster, or to provide updates of a disaster in progress.
If you hear this signal, stop what you are doing and listen to the emergency message as if your life depends on it. The signal sounds a bit like a siren. Please wait for the wav file to load on this page, and you will hear what it sounds like.
When you hear the signal, follow the directions given, if the emergency is in your area, or prepare to follow any instruction that are given, if the emergency is approaching you.
