Traun is the main character of this story. Despite his rather round facial structure, he is about fourteen years old and is an active competitor in the martial arts games.
In this world, individuals who participate in these special games, and who are of a high enough rank, will also receive a createon, a companion whose skills are often equal to those of their Chosens. There are many different types of createons, ranging from tiny insects of minimal skills to the large dragon companioned with Traun's brother. Traun himself receives a young dragon spawn, who makes it known his name is Samanae.
As well as a createon, a participator in the special games must also have a chosen elemental. Although there are many, the basics are the Fire, Water, Plant, Rock, Life, Death, and Mutational Elements, highest to lowest, respectively. Water Elementals are usually peaceful creatures, but their docile nature should not be taken for granted. Like the water of our world, they too can cause fatalic destruction. Plant Elementals, the third strongest type, are flexible creatures. Rock Elementals are stable, and extremely reliable. However, they usually have a soft core and are easily defeated by extreme measures. Any normal attacks are rendered useless by their amazing defense. Life Elementals have the ability to utilize any living thing in their vicinity (how close/far depends on the individual's jewel status) and control their activities using mindspeech. Death Elementals do the exact opposite. Mutational Elementals are the lowest of the Basic Elements. Their low ranking is not due to their lack of power; rather, it is because of the inconsistency of it. Those who weild a Mutational Element never know what the outcome will be, and if the converted object/organism will be friend or foe. In order to control a Mutational Elemental, one must be ranked as an Elemental, whose equal is that of the Black. Traun's older brother, Karz, is an amythest ranked individual, while Traun is only a pyrite. But soon a tragic event will propel him towards the ultimate level...the Black.
