The Sun rose, and the Moon replaced it. The Sun rose, and the Moon replaced it. Again and again. Three centuries had passed since the union of Celt and Man, and all was peaceful. One winter night during the annual time of Dornė, kings were praying in their palaces. The soldiers were gathered wherever they were: in the streets, in the fields; they were all praying to Cardė and celebrating the arrival of a new year, the creator of goodness and life. The mothers were holding their babies who were now celebrating Dornė for the first time, and even the beggars in the streets of Asdhen had come out to the sides of the road to pray and celebrate. And, finally, the new year had arrived. People jumped and shouted, slapping one another on the back, saying, "Cardė be praised!" at the tops of their lungs.
Another creature, too, had come out to greet the new year, but he was special. About fifteen minutes after Dornė had ended, a small finger arose from the soil in the Gucatė Desert. At that very moment, a great black tide came towering from the Gucatė Desert, quickly spreading off to all corners of Almalinė.
The merrymakers began to cry out Cardė, "What have we done, O Cardė? We have honored you!" Of course, no reply came immediately, and the people became afraid and soon returned to their homes, locked the doors to their homes (uncommon for Almalinians, unless you lived in the city), and hid away silently. But Cardė had heard their cries, and from Erbadoln, a robed, sweeping spirit rushed westward. For the remainder of the night, the spirit, the seventh Almalė, went to each of the Almalae, telling them that Cardė had summoned them to return to Erbadoln. The peopl who lived in their domains became utterly terrified then, and there were many tears and sorrowful goodbyes as the Almalae, whom the people had always looked to as the highest inspiration in the world as they knew it, were forced to leave. Thus, the night was soon titled the Night of Many Tears.
At sundown of the next day, all the Almalae set sail for Erbadoln on a great ship with large, white sails. The sea surged underneath, and the last rays of the sun turned the ship red, and the water looked like dancing fire. Then, as the Almalae were going out of sight from Almalinė, the sun was gone and the darkness of night came down upon the sad shore. Up above, a star rose over Erbadoln.
Meanwhile, the creature that would come to be known as Dugorm, had brought with him all that he needed to begin a new establishment within the desert: his raiment soaked with Gurg blood, bones of demons that had fallen deep into the great gap during the final battle against Gacatė and which were missed when Rohzgurm was lifted from the face of the world. With these few small things, he began to create living beings from them. Although he himself was unable to create new life, if he had but a piece of the life force of a creature, he could make it anew. And so, soon, he had a considerable army of Gurgs reborn, although weaker in power than the original make of Gacatė. With these and a few other creatures, he began to construct a stronghold in the midst of the desert. Strangely enough, this tower was built at the very place where Gacatė had originally invaded Cardė's world, many long years ago. Within several days, the foundation was already well on its way. Overhead dragons flew above Almalinian land for the first time, and underneath, wicked desert octupuses would occasionally rise their hideous, gaping jaws to the surface to pull in air.
In the following decades, Gurgs would occasionally leave Gucatė Desert to make raids on Norgard, which resulted in Norgard becoming the strongest militaristically-based city in Almalinė (but perhaps with the exception of Dugorm's fortress, Hargul, which was growing in might daily). Dugorm, seeing the might in Norgard, then turned to Asdhen, and it too built its defenses after some of the city had been destroyed. Now the wisdom and guidance of the Almalae paid off: Norgard and Asdhen arranged plans to support each other in time of disaster, and also they began to look at the possibility of possibly invading Gucatė Desert should the need become great enough.
After Dugorm had taken advantage of Norgard and Asdhen, he realized that it was too risky to use them for supplies, and so after that, he moved west into the Drecāmorn to gain things that he needed. He would only invade Norgard and Asdhen every few years so that they would not make their defenses too strong. After his spies told him of the practice of Dornė, he usually sent his Gurgs out to attack during the night which immediately followed.
However, his attacks were never too fierce to spark any real conflict, and so, overall, most of the time, things were peaceful in Almalinė, and the people never became too discontented enough to wage war. The tower at Hargul rose higher and stronger.
