GO HERE FOR A MORNING MEDITATION

The greatest weapon of any Spiritual Warrior is love.
Love will change minds;
love will forgive;
love will let go;
love will cause good luck;
love will heal;
love will cry;
love will get rid of resentments;
love will overcome fear.
Love loves love.
Any human who is loving will be guaranteed respect.
Respect loves love.
We need to love and respect ourselves.

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books.
Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders.
Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations.

But after observation and analysis,
when you find that anything agrees with reason
and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all,
then accept it and live up to it"

~ Buddha ~

Lessons Learned

"You're capable, you're creative, you're full of life and energy.
You have what it takes to move yourself forward around any obstacle.
Don't let anything stop you.
Take strength from meeting the challenges, and move ahead.
The struggles you face are just what you need to fulfill your potential for greatness.
Think back over the past year.
Consider the ways in which you've grown, the things you've learned, your accomplishments.
Most of these probably came from overcoming some challenge or adversity which initially stood in your way.
A year from now, when you look back at today, you'll see that the problem you're so concerned with right now, was another valuable lesson waiting to be learned."

~ Author Unknown ~

I've yet to meet an absolute perfectionist
whose life was filled with inner peace.

The need for perfection and the desire for inner tranquility conflict with each other.
Whenever we are attached to having something a certain way, better than it already is, we are, almost by definition, engaged in a losing battle.
Rather than being content and grateful for what we have, we are focused on what's wrong with something and our need to fix it.
When we are zeroed in on what's wrong, it implies that we are dissatisfied, discontent.
Whether it's related to ourselves--a disorganized closet, a scratch on the car, an imperfect accomplishment, a few pounds we would like to lose or someone else's imperfections, the way someone looks, behaves, or lives their life the very act of focusing on imperfection pulls us away from our goal of being kind an gentle.
This strategy has nothing to do with ceasing to do your very best but with being overly attached and focused on what's wrong with life.
It's about realizing that while there's always a better way to do something, this doesn't mean that you can't enjoy and appreciate the way things already are.

The solution here is to catch yourself when you fall into your habit of insisting that things should be other than they are.
Gently remind yourself that life is okay the way it is, right now.
In the absence of your judgment, everything would be fine.
As you begin to eliminate your need for perfection in all areas of your life, you'll begin to discover the perfection in life itself.

MAKING CHOICES IS YOUR GREATEST POWER

At any time you can decide to alter the course of your life.
No one can ever take that away from you.
You can do what you want to do and be who you want to be.

Nature is constantly at work around you.
Character and destiny are her handiwork. She gives you love and hate, jealousy and reverence.
You have the power to choose which impulse you follow.

While your character is formed by your circumstances,
your desires can shape those circumstances.
The one thing over which you have absolute control is your own thoughts.
It is this that puts you in a position to control your own destiny.

Your greatest power is the power to choose.

Motivational Thought of the Day

Spiritual Wisdom of the Week

A Weedless Garden

"I was neurotic for years. I was anxious and depressed and selfish. Everyone kept telling me to change. I resented them, and I agreed with them, and I wanted to change, but simply couldn't, no matter how hard I tried. Then one day someone said to me, "Don't change. I love you just as you are." Those words were music to my ears: "Don't change, Don't change. Don't change . . . I love you as you are." I relaxed. I came alive. And suddenly I changed!"

~ Anthony de Mello ~

How do you interact with "others" each day?
Do you send them messages that they need to change who they are in order for you to love them, or do you allow them the space to be whoever they are and thereby convey to them your belief that they are lovable just as they are?
Some might say that truly loving an "other" is creating the space for that person to grow--not into what you believe that person should be but, rather, into whatever it is that the Creator intends.
It is very much like being a gardener: one cultivates the ground and plants and tends the seed, but the seed and its life come from the Creator, as does the sunlight that helps it grow.
The gardener's role is not to create the plant or determine what kind of flower the plant will give forth; rather, it is simply to create the space for that growth to become possible.
The plot of human relationships is a tricky one, for the plants that grow there come in a million varieties, and each one requires its own particular care and space.
And, like the millions of different kinds of flowers that grow on the earth, blessedly, each has the capacity for unfolding into something beautiful, something fragrant, something that, in its simply being, gives witness to magnificence.

Letting others "be" means limiting the amount of manure we heap on them and giving them enough personal attention and space to unfold.
Our suggestion is to walk through your own garden and note the areas where you might interact with others differently in order to provide them with such space, light, and life-giving waters of human compassion.

It is also our suggestion that you look at yourself from the same perspective, for no one tends your garden like you do.
Ask yourself, for example,

What kind of plant am I today?
How do I feel?
What kind of texture do I have?
Do I have thorns, am I succulent, do I feel wilted and dry?
What do I need from life today in order to blossom?

Then treat yourself accordingly.
If you are anxious, depressed, or neurotic, perhaps you are telling yourself that you need to change when you shouldn't.
Give it some thought, and remind yourself instead that you are lovable just as you are.
There are no weeds growing in the Creator's garden.

Relax, come alive, and bloom!

One of the most important things you can do in life is to simply find time for yourself.
By this, we don't mean opting out of society or "spacing out".
Value yourself enough to give yourself time to simply BE,
without any expectation of goal or result.
Paradoxically, by doing this, we can often achieve far more in our externally focused lives than we otherwise might.

When our lives are primarily externally focused, it becomes easy to lose sight of the gameplan.
What are we doing all this for?
What is the point of it all?
Like too many stressed out corporate "high-fliers", we may reach the very top of the ladder,
only to find that it is leaning against the wrong wall.
The joy of simply living all too easily evaporates as we postpone our pleasure for some unspecified future date.
We don't allow ourselves to be happy NOW,
but instead promise ourselves that when we have got that promotion, or fallen in love with that ideal partner, or had that baby, bought that new hone, or become a millionaire, THEN we can be happy.
Meanwhile the present time, which in truth is all we ever really have, quietly slips away.

The biggest trap is to work for money.
Many people do this assuming that once a certain amount of money has been amassed in the bank, or once they can see the sheer immensity of their assets laid out before them,
THEN they will be truly happy.
Again, it is an utter illusion.
The truth is that you have to prepare your mindset for wealth first or else
(a) you will never truly achieve it because your inner mind will forever act to keep you within your comfort zone or,
(b) if you do achieve it, you will not have developed the habits of mind to be content with it anyway.

Tony Robbins tells about how much he wanted to become a millionaire but once he actually achieved it, the thrill lasted for about ten minutes.
After that, everything felt just the same as before.
Yes, there are many millionaires who are happy.
However, there are many who are as equally miserable.
In fact, many of the latter would agree that their prime cause of sorrow is the money itself; fear of losing it, dissatisfaction at not being as rich as so-and-so who is worth ten times more, etc.
The key point is that money itself is not the determiner of happiness and purpose.
A correct state of mind IS.

Capturing our purpose is THE most important thing we can possibly do.
It is not the work of a moment, an hour or even of a few days.
It is an ongoing project that brings more riches each and every day.
By doing this, we discover who we really are and why exactly we are here.
The truth is that you are here for a purpose.

You manifested into this life for a reason.
So how do we go about discovering this purpose?

The first thing is simply to make time for yourself.
Treat yourself as precious and important and find times to be alone in quiet reflection upon your life.
Many people meditate to gain deeper insights about themselves.
This is certainly immensely valuable.
However, if you feel uncomfortable with meditation at this stage, then simply creating moments in the day when you can ponder and wonder can be deeply beneficial.

At several points in the day, try simply closing your eyes and taking a deep breath.
Turn your attention inward and remember whatever it is you need to, and as you let your breath out exhale all your tension and concerns.
David Kundtz, in his excellent book "Stopping", calls these brief moments in the day "Stillpoints".
They are easier to do than meditation because they only take a few seconds.
However, if you do about fifteen or so of these a day, it can make a tremendous difference to your inner calm and perspective on life.

You can also do what Kundtz calls "Stopovers".
These are slightly longer breaks lasting from several minutes to several hours, where you take time to specifically do NOTHING.
This is important.
There is no agenda.
You simply give yourself time to BE.
You listen to your body and what it has to say.

You listen to your inner intuition and gradually develop the ability to hear its valuable insights.
You develop Openness and gradually by-pass the inner critic that filters out what you heart's desire really is with negative thinking and being "realistic".
By giving yourself more time to simply be and experience your own "beingness" without preconditions, you gradually awaken to what your soul's purpose is, one step at a time.

Tip For Action:

Create some Stillpoints and Stopovers for yourself TODAY.
Why not do one right now?!
Try and remember what you have learned today and bring these powerful techniques into your life straight away.

In a next lesson lesson, we will start to look at the thorny issue of self-esteem.
Low self-esteem is at the heart of 95% of our problems in life.
Tomorrow, you'll learn to break free of any self-esteem issues you may have, and begin to reach for your dreams.

Best Wishes,

Elder's Meditation of the Day - July 26

"These are our times and our responsibilities:
Every human being has a sacred duty to protect the welfare of our Mother Earth,
from whom all life comes.

In order to do this, we must recognize the enemy - the one within us.
We must begin with ourselves..."
~ Leon Shenandoah, ONONDAGA ~

The outside is merely a reflection of our insides.
My mind is designed to tell me that I'm not crazy for thinking what I am thinking.
Even if I have angry thought,
my mind is giving me excuses and reasons
why it is OK to think what I'm thinking.
I need to be knowledgeable about the laws of harmony and balance.
I cannot twist the laws to serve me
but I can adjust my life to serve the laws.
This is the law - I am here to serve the earth.
The earth is not here for me to misuse and abuse.

Oh Great Spirit,
allow me the insight
and knowledge
of how to live
in harmony
and balance
with my
surroundings.
Grant me
change from within.

Life just is.
You have to flow with it.
Give yourself to the moment.
Let it happen.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - August 2

"When you get older and you are ready,
your ancestors will show up to guide you."
~ Joe Coyhis, STOCKBRIDGE-MUNSEE ~

Many of us, when we are young, spend a portion of our lives in learning.
Unfortunately, some of us spend this time learning the hard way.
When we are young we sometimes think we know everything.
Sometimes we do foolish things.
As we get a little older, we realize we don't know anything.
This is when we become teachable.
There is a saying that goes, when the student is ready, the teacher appears.
We usually aren't teachable unless we are ready.
The ancestors are waiting and willing to help.
When we are ready, many beautiful teachers start to come into our lives.
Then we really start to grow and mature.
We are ready for the spiritual lesson.

Creator, help me to become ready and teachable.

Oh Great Spirit, give me a vision for today.
Let me see truth.
Let me walk in beauty.
Let my heart guide me in truth.
The law says the truth shall set you free.
Let me be free today.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - August 10

"Nature is the storehouse of potential life of future generations and is sacred."
~ Audrey Shenandoah, ONONDAGA ~

We need to honor and respect our Mother Earth.
She is the source of all life.
The sun shines life to the earth, then the earth produces life in all forms and in a balanced way.
Everything is here to serve everything else.
If we interrupt the flow in any way, we leave nothing for the future generations.
Before every decision is made, we should ask, and answer, a final question,
"If we do this, what will be the effects on the seventh generation?
What will we cause our children to live with?"

We need to have respect and love for all things and for all people.
We need to do this for ourselves and for all the children still unborn.

My Creator, let me look at nature today
and let me have the highest
respect for all the things I see.
All the two legged, the four legged, the winged ones,
the plants, the water, the air, the Mother Earth.

Let me have respect for myself.

guide my life to include the spiritual in everything I do

Elder's Meditation of the Day - August 19

"If we keep everything in balance, we are in harmony with ourselves and are at peace."
~~ Fools Crow, LAKOTA ~~

As within, as without, our present thought determines our future.
If we want peace outside ourselves, we must first have peace inside ourselves.
It's not what is going on but how we are looking at what is going on.
We need to keep ourselves in balance.
We must be careful to not get too hungry, angry, lonely or tired.

We must know the times -
time to work, time to rest, time to play, time to sleep,
time to pray, time to lighten up, time to laugh, time to eat, time to exercise.
There is a saying "The honor of one is the honor of all."
This means when we work with all, we need to also work on one.
We need to take care of ourselves.
You cannot give away what you don't have

"The mind's eye changes the way we judge things."

My Creator, let me realize the power of choice.

Let me see the advantages of changing my beliefs.
Today, if I am judging my brother, let me change my beliefs to acceptance.
If my thoughts are of anger, let me change them to love.
Let my eyes only see you in everything and every person.

Elder's Meditation of the Day - September 5

"Decisions that have been made for the last couple of centuries
have been decisions made without the presence of a real God....
from the vision, not of God, but of money."
--Tom Porter, MOHAWK

As we view the world today, it's easy to see the people are off track.
We are no longer living in harmony.
Focusing on the material only leads us from the path of the Creator.
We must now pray for ourselves and the people in a pitiful way.
We must be humble and ask the Great Spirit to intervene because if we don't,
our children will continue to have troubles.
They are acting out our behavior as adults.

Today is a good time to start.
We need to get the spiritual way back into our lives.
We need to focus on the spiritual.
