Burfurd Bulldogs enter first-round playoffs on high note

The Buford Bulldogs will enter their first-round playoff series with Hagersville on a high note.

Wins over Wellesley and Lambeth this weekend pushed the Bulldogs' win streak to three with Game 1 Saturday in Hagersville.

 

Tyler Vandenbussche, Dallas Boakes, Tyler Maclaughun and Jim Salatas scored for Burford in its 4-3 win over Wellesley Saturday night.

The Bulldogs led 3-2 after the first period and made it 4-2 in the second period before the Applejacks cut the deficit to within one.

Each team registered 33 shots, with Mitchell Bleskie earning the win for Burford.

Wellesley went 1-for-4 on the power play, while Burford was held scoreless in six power plays.

Sunday against Lambeth, Burford trailed 4-1 and roared back with four unanswered goals to edge the Lancers 5-4 in the regular season finale.

Trailing by three goals in the second period, Boakes and John Slade each scored twice to give Burford the win. Boakes scored the winner with 6:24 remaining in the third period.

Jason Watson also scored for the Bulldogs, who converted on two of six power plays.

Lambeth led 3-1 after the first period and 4-3 going into the third.

Slavko Lysyk made 30 saves as Burford outshot Lambeth 39-34.

 

Burford (13-21-2) finished third in the McConnell Conference and will host Game 2 this Sunday and Game 3, Saturday, Feb. 27.

Both games are slated for 7:30 p.m.
