Navy Vets and Norwich Merchants announce training camp dates

The Woodstock Navy Vets will return to the ice in one month. The Junior C club recently announced its training camp schedule, which kicks off on Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Southwood Arena.

Four tryouts/practices are scheduled, plus two exhibition games against the Simcoe Storm. It was also announced that the longtime Shootout at the Plex would be cancelled this year.

This season marks the first since 2006-07 that the city's junior hockey team will be known as the Navy Vets. Woodstock played the last three seasons as the Renegades.

Down Highway 59, the Norwich Merchants will have a head start on their county rivals with rookie camp beginning next week.

Norwich's main camp begins Aug. 25 in Tillsonburg. Three dates are scheduled, followed by three practices. The Merchants will play six exhibition games against Niagara League opponents.

The Ontario Hockey Association has not released the division's regular season schedule, though it's expected to begin Friday, Sept. 17.
