By CORY SMITH, SENTINEL-REVIEW
AYLMER -- The Woodstock Navy Vets dropped two more games this weekend, but they gained a point.
The Navy Vets lost 6-3 in New Hamburg Friday night and 3-2 in overtime Saturday in Aylmer.
Aylmer's Brandon Harbour scored with 22 seconds left in overtime to hand the Navy Vets their second OT defeat of the season.
Curtis Maracle gave the Spitfi res a 1-0 lead early in the first period, but Woodstock's Derek Cowing responded 15 seconds later with his team-leading eighth goal.
Chase Thornton scored his fifth of the season, while shorthanded, to give the Vets their first lead 48 seconds into the middle frame.
Woodstock (1-10-2) was almost 10 minutes from earning its second win before Aylmer's Travis Schruder tied the game at two.
Trevor Neable made 35 saves as Aylmer outshot Woodstock 38-29.
Friday in New Hamburg, the Firebirds scored four second-period goals to break open a 1-1 game and skate to a 6-1 win.
Blake Jordan scored 3:37 into the first period for New Hamburg, but the Navy Vets tied it on Kyle Morris' power-play goal late in the period.
Woodstock played well, but Trevor Sweetland's goal 37 seconds into the second period followed by three more Firebird goals in the last 5:11 of the middle frame snuffed any chance of a Woodstock upset against the Niagara west second-place team.
It was 6-1 New Hamburg before Travis Horvath and Spencer Sweazey cut the deficit to three.
Vets goalie Neil Pittock made 39 saves, including 16 in the first period.
