King Edward came to seige the castle with 87 knights and 3000 men, in 1300. After a short while Lord Maxwell's garrison of 60 men surrendered. Eventually the Maxwell family would take back control of the castle.
Seige engines and trebuchets were used in the seige of the castle. Edward's forces came from the castles Lochmaben, Carlisle, Roxburgh, Jedburgh and Skinburness. |
