"On the morning of the solenity all
the inhabitants at their doos were chatting over the preparations" (Flaubert
92)
As we all may remember the infamous Agricultural Show came to our town
of Yonville not to long ago. And as we may also remember that it went
off with out a hitch. I, as you already knew, was a member of the arrangements
committee that was in charge of putting on the splendid Agricultural Show.
For this is the reason why I believe it did go off so well without any mistakes.
The entire town came out that
lovely day to which the whole town itself was decorated delightfully.
The Town Hall Itself was dressed with a lovely green ivy that captured
the mood of the entire day. On the four pillars of the town hall
stood the signs of trade, agriculture, industry, and fine arts. The
enormous crowd made for a rather delightful event in which our quaint town
of Yonville was made enormous. People from all over were there to
celebrate in our glory. I my self arrived in a black dress coat,
nankeen trousers, beaver shoes, and a hat with a low crown. Rather
stunning that I myself was outside but being on the committee and being
apart of the Agricultural Show I managed to get out of my house for a little
while.
Binet was in charge of the
National Guard and the Fire Brigade, which began the festivities with a
cannon shot. Everything was timed into place and was perfectly brought
off. The counselor himself gave an exquisite speech, which intrigued
the entire audience. He gave great tribute to our farmers and their
hard work that benefits agriculture itself. The speech itself motivated
me so that I wanted to achieve more for agriculture and strengthen it.
I believe hat agriculture will persevere with our help and our efforts.
Another speech was made by Monsieur Derozerays in which he discussed religion
and agriculture.
Next were the prizes given
to those farmers of agriculture. This was an awesome display of good
character and happiness. The winners were delighted by the prizes
but received them with dignity and honor. When this was all over there
was an amazing meal put on for the entire town. There were enormous
amounts of food for all to eat and none went home hungry. As this was
progressing on there were many delightful toasts made to enhance the evening.
After the meal there was a delightful display of fireworks. These fireworks
were bright and well put together, so well that many believed they were
dreaming.
All of these things and more
compiled to make a stupendous Agricultural Show. The only two things
that could have been done better, if the mayor himself were not in charge
of it, were the massive amount of intoxication and the poor display of
arts in the buildings. I also noticed the absence of the clergymen himself;
he must have had his own religious reasons.
If there is any information
I am forgetting please address yourself to the Rouen Beacon in which I
wrote a tremendous article on the praises of the Show itself.
