"Then her pride asserted itself.  But she still said nothing, stifling her rage with a mute stoicism that she was to maintain until her death" (Flaubert 30)

Madame Bovary Sr. was a very lovely woman she was very smart but was somewhat blinded when it comes to her son.  She seemed to spoil Charles by giving him whatever she could.  Also from what I’ve heard she pretty much done everything for him from finding an apartment for him to solving his financial troubles.   Recently I’ve learned a bit about her past, she at first really loved her husband, she was “lively, expansive, and generous” but after living with him for a while she became “ difficult, shrill voiced nervous as she grew older, like uncorked wine which turns to vinegar” (Flaubert 30).  Even though she was frustrated with his laziness and drinking problems she truly still cared for him, as she was devastated by his passing away.  But the death of Charles really got to her; she loved him so much and couldn’t deal with his passing away.   She tried to take care of Berthe, but she soon died, the Bovary story is quite tragic but I guess that’s the way life goes sometimes.
