DENMARK vs ENGLAND MATCH STATS
DENMARK vs ENGLAND MATCH REPORT
A great 1st half performance sees England progress to the last 8 with
considerable ease. 3 goals were never on the cards against an on-form Denmark
side. But Denmark were slow to get out of the blocks today.
Another good performance by Seaman, although he wasnt really needed that often in the game but when he was called into action, he delivered some great saves and he proved why he is first choice keeper. He has let in 1 goal in 4 games and that is the record so far in the tournament. He is superb.
The defense was a rock again as they easily dispossed the Denmark forwards. they hardly got as much as a sniff at goal in the first half, but England had to hold strong and they did so greatly in the second half. Rio and Sol were again excellent, especially Rio as he is a top class defender, earning the MOM award again. The two full backs were again useful and threatened to go forward with pace. Millsy and Cole are extremely pacey up their flanks.
The midfield was solid yet again. Nicky Butt and Paul Scholes, absolutely amazing. Beckham and Sinclair were useful as they got forward and attacked, but the whole of the midfield moved forward and backwards when they needed to maintain a perfect line and a team unit.
The Strikers were causing a lot of havoc, Heskey played well again, Sheringham came on and played well, Fowler got his chance, but no-one deserved a goal more than Michael Owen, he has been outstanding all through the competition but hasnt managed to get on the score sheet. today he did and he deserved every moment, and i would like to clear up that his injury is not serious and he is expected to play in the quarter final on Friday, either against Brazil or Belgium. My bet is Brazil. England are now second favourites for the world cup, behind Brazil.
1st Goal
Ferdinand Celebrates
The first goal came after 4 minutes when Ferdinand headed the ball towards goal,
the keeper made a real hash of it as he managed to turn it over the goal line
but no-one was going to deprive Rio Ferdinand of his first goal for his conutry
as he totally deserved it.
Owen scores 2nd Goal
Owen celebrates his goal
The second came just after the 22 minute mark when Owen scored his first goal of the tournament, a great finish into the bottom right hand corner as the striker shot. it was well timed. A trully typical finish from Owen that we all expect of him.
Heskey turns in the third
Heskey celbrates in usual fashion
The third and final goal came just before half time which killed the game,
perhaps what they should have done against Sweden in the opening game of
England's tournament. Heskey received the ball from a square pass from Beckham
on the 18 yard line and smashed the ball into the net past the keepers
outstreched left arm. Amazing, the country went mad!
England seemed to be on the backfoot again towards the end of the match, but they were not to be undone as held on for a clean sheet.
Overall, a superb perofrmance by England and now many people are not ruling out the chance for England to go all the way, after some great defensive work.
