Rio is on his way

The decision, was it really that tough Rio?

!Welcome!

Well, finally the day that every Man Utd fan was looking forward to is here, Leeds agreeing a bid for defender Rio Ferdinand. Manchester United have now got past the Leeds Utd stage and are processing the finishing touches of the deal by discussing personal terms for the player.

After some fantastic, consistent performances for England in the world cup, Rio Ferdinand's value had soared. He attracted clubs from all over the world, but I think he had his heart set on England. Training with players like David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Wes Brown, he will have had plenty of time to talk. He must have been dreaming of playing in the champions league. Talking to stars such as the named players must have given the 23 year old an incentive to move.

You have to feel for Leeds fans, who feel let down and cheated by their chairman, and any hope of a champions league spot is looking further and further out of their hands. But with money to spend. El Tel must use it wisely and spend where necessary to bring in some extra faces.

This weekend has been hectic because of all the speculation and talks going on. It seemed more and more likely as the weekend begun when Rio Ferdinand did not turn up to London Heathrow to join his team mates on their pre-season tour to the far east and Australia. Given the extra chance, Alex Ferguson, the master of football planted an un-refuseable bid for Rio which was eventually accepted by Peter Risdale..

The deal seemed to be dragging on for ages and Risdale was getting frustrated as he wanted more money. He, of course wasn't the only one. Rio wanted to go, the fans wanted to know, and Fergie wanted his man. This is great news for Manchester United if they can get past the final hurdle and put pen to paper.

It will be a lucrative deal. More details on the contract soon.
