Match Report: -
An entertaining first half saw Turkey score within the first minute when Hakan Sukur scored the quickest goal ever in the word cup finals, also his first goal in this world cup. South Korea however didn't sit back and soon equalised after 9 minutes. After this fiery opening, the match looked to be an exciting one. Turkey are no easy opponents as South Korea soon realised. Sukur looked lively up front and played superbly but it is too little too late for him now. Turkey replied soon after South Korea's opening goal, on 12 minutes and again on 31 minutes both through Ilhan. Turkey went into the half time break 3-1 up.
The second half started and Korea came out looking likely to score first, threatening the Turkey goal. However South Korea failed to capitalise on the pressure they exerted on Turkey and found it hard to get shots on target and when they did they couldn't beat Rustu Receber in the Turkish goal. Turkey had a few more chances through Hakan Suker, a number of times coming close.
Unfortunately for Korea they couldn't score through 80 minutes, but then did so in the 90th minute, but they knew that it was too late. Turkey finishing 3rd in only their second world cup finals and South Korea, also impressing.
It was nice to see both teams celebrating together and rightly so for their fantastic achievements.
