SWEDEN

Goalkeepers

1-Magnus Hedman (Coventry City) Born: 19.3.73

Loud, tall and blessed with good reflexes, Hedman can be caught out by low shots. First-choice if fit but has been prone to injuries. Has conceded only four goals in 18 World Cup and European Championship qualifiers and not lost any of those matches.

12-Magnus Kihlstedt (FC Copenhagen) Born: 29.2.72
Solid second-choice goalkeeper in Hedman's shadow since making his international debut against the United States in January 1998. Made Euro 2000 squad but did not play.

23-Andreas Isaksson (Djurgarden) Born 13.10.81
Tall, promising under-21 stalwart tested by Italian giants Juventus. Seen by most Swedish soccer experts as the best goalkeeper in domestic league.

Defenders

3-Patrik Andersson (Barcelona) Born 18.8.71

Captain and veteran central defender who moved to Spain this season after two successful years with Bayern Munich. Calm authority gained in career that includes Euro 92 semifinals and third-place finish at 1994 World Cup. Strong in the air but does not always turn fast. Repeated injuries late 2001, early 2002.

4-Johan Mjallby (Celtic) Born 9.2.71
Reliable all-rounder with good positioning, who reads opponents' attacks well. Ruthless man-to-man marker, described once as a nuclear power plant. Starting line-up candidate to team up with Patrik Andersson in central defence.

2-Olof Mellberg (Aston Villa) Born 3.9.77
Long-limbed, elegant central or right-sided defender. Strong marker who seldom loses a duel in the air. Excels with well-timed gliding tackles but his crosses can be erratic. Crude tackle on team mate Ljungberg caused fracas at pre-World Cup training camp.

5-Michael Svensson (Troyes) Born 25.11.75
Big, strong in the air. In Patrik Andersson's shadow as central defender for Sweden but has impressed in French football.

14-Erik Edman (Heerenveen) Born 11.11.78
Hard worker who relishes attack but lacks overview and has slipped up in his few internationals.

16-Teddy Lucic (AIK Stockholm) Born 15.4.73
Tall, strong in the air. Failed to shine during short 1998-99 stay with Bologna in Italy's Serie A.

13-Tomas Antonelius (FC Copenhagen) Born: 5.5.73
A diminutive but quick and agile attack-minded defender. Back after a knee injury he was one of the last to make the squad and may not see much action unless regulars injured.

15-Andreas Jakobsson (Hansa Rostock) Born: 8.10.72
All-round central defender, strong in the air, good at interceptions. Reliable substitute but distant starting line-up prospects.

Midfielders

9-Fredrik Ljungberg (Arsenal) Born: 16.4.77

Energetic and dynamic dribbler with a reputation for getting behind defences. Has superb ball control at speed, great stamina, and will fight to the final whistle. Known for colourful hair styles.

8-Anders Svensson (Southampton) Born: 17.7.76
Tenacious, fast, good at shaking off opponents, one of Sweden's more technically skilled midfielders. Shoots well. Starting line-up regular with stamina to play 90 minutes at full speed.

6-Tobias Linderoth (Everton) Born: 21.4.79
Elegant player, able to hit defence-splitting passes for team mates running into space. Medium-height but exudes authority and has shown maturity beyond his years.

7-Niclas Alexandersson (Everton) Born 29.12.71
Dependable all-rounder who made his international debut back in 1993. Lacks that little extra sparkle required for stardom but has been called a perfect team player.

20-Daniel Andersson (Venezia) Born: 28.8.77
Skilful but sometimes lacks movement. Has potential to become new Tomas Brolin if he develops imaginative side of his game. Yet to show his best form in national team. Younger brother of defender Patrik Andersson.

19-Pontus Farnerud (Monaco) Born 4.6.80
Short but fast and aggressive. Made a promising debut for senior team in 2002. Has a lot of Under-21 experience.

17-Magnus Svensson (Brondby) Born: 10.3.69
Nicknamed "Turbo", Svensson is a relentless fighter who excels at marking opponents. A machine that never stops running, Svensson is at his best in left or central midfield.

18-Mattias Jonson (Brondby) Born 16.1.74
Useful all-rounder who seldom has a bad game. Minor injuries have kept him out of the national team of late. Forwards:

Forwards

11-Henrik Larsson (Celtic) Born 20.9.71

Sweden's top international, immensely popular at Celtic. Prolific goal hunter with experience of 1994 World Cup. European club football's top scorer in 2000/01 season. Quick and agile, Larsson has sixth sense for scoring opportunities.

21-Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Ajax Amsterdam) Born: 3.10.81
Mesmerising trickster with superb un-Swedish ball control. Big, aggressive and brimming with confidence, he is hugely popular with fans but has found it hard to maintain high standard throughout a match.

10-Marcus Allback (Heerenveen) Born: 5.7.73
Technically gifted late bloomer who saved Sweden's World Cup qualification campaign with crucial goals when Henrik Larsson failed to find the net. Swedish league's top scorer in 1999.

22-Andreas Andersson (AIK Stockholm) Born: 10.4.74
Unpredictable, creative talent whose runs can rip good defences apart. Hit by injuries since return to Swedish league after brief spells with AC Milan and Newcastle United.
