Can I use E-Mail
only for my travelers? Yes, Stanleys could be sent as e-mail
attachments. State that you would prefer e-mail replies only in your introductory
email note.
What am I supposed to say in my
letters? It's easy to respond to a letter if there is some common information included. Good content also makes this more of a learning experience. Consider including the following:
- Weather- Current temperature as well as some seasonal ranges.
- Location- Latitude and longitude and proximity to major cities.
- Population- How many people in your city and in your school?
- Describe favorite local activities, sports, hobbies and sites of interest and industries.
- What do you like best about where you are?
- What's important to you?
- What causes or projects are you involved in?
- What are your favorite books?
- Who is your favorite author?
- What is your favorite television
program?
What do I send
home with my visiting traveler? Little things like local leaves, coins, stickers, post cards and photographs
are always a good learning tool and children welcome their arrival.
What do Stanleys
look like and where can I find a pattern to make them? Stanleys
can be a favorite animal, plant, doll, anything you want. Many
scan a picture and use it, while others draw one or copy a pattern to
decorate the way they want them. There are some links to doll
patterns on our links page.
How do I keep up
with all our travelers and guests?
The easiest way to keep track of your travelers and your visiting
travelers is to keep a log sheet. I have a piece of notebook
paper that is divided into columns. One is for our visitors and the
other for our travelers. The headings for our travelers are: Date
Sent, To, Address, Email, Flat Travelers Name, and Date Returned.
The headings for our visitors are: Date
Received, From, Address, Email, Flat Travelers Name, Date Returned. I
fill in the information as the travelers arrive and when I send one
out. You can keep all the information on one sheet, but I find
it a bit confusing when our travelers are kept on the same page as our
visitors. You can also keep a wall chart with similar headings
and document the information there.
I would like to keep
easy track of where our travelers have been. Is there an easy
way? Yes!
We have a small map of the world on our wall. Each time our
traveler returns, we place a sticker on the map and put a string from
the sticker to the country or state that our traveler
visited.
How can I keep
everything our traveler brings back organized? Some
people make a scrapbook to hold all the things they received, while
others use a three ring binder. Blank pages can hold pictures
and journals while plastic sleeves hold smaller items. Page dividers
are a good choice as it allows for easy separation of countries and
states.
