1975-1989

4/8/1975: Player/Manager Frank Robinson becomes the first Black manager in MLB. In his Indians debut, he hits a home run. The Indians beat the Yankees 5-3. This was later voted by Indians fans as the most memorable moment in team history.

5/30/1977: Dennis Eckersley pitches a no-hitter in a 1-0 win against the Angels.

8/29/1977: SS Duane Kuiper hits the only home run of his entire career in 9-2 victory over the White Sox. Kuiper later commented, "One home run is better than none, but any more than one and people start expecting them."

12/??/1980: Joe Charboneau wins the AL Rookie of the Year Award. Charboneau became very popular with Indians fans, even getting the nickname "Super Joe." However, his career never was the same afterwards due to back injuries. He was out of baseball within two years.

5/15/1981: Len Barker pitches a perfect game in a 3-0 win over the Blue Jays. Current Indians television announcer Rick Manning caught the final out.

7/31/1981: Cleveland Municipal Stadium is the sight of the MLB All-Star Game. Representing the Indians were Len Barker and Bo Diaz. The NL won 5-4.

5/2/1984: Andre Thornton walks six times to tie an AL record in a 9-7 16 inning win over the Orioles in Baltimore.

12/11/1986: A group headed by Richard Jacobs purchases the Indians from Steve O'Neill.

5/28/1989: The Indians beat the Orioles 1-0. This was the first game I ever attended. If I remember correctly, Joe Carter bunted in Pete O'Brien from 3rd in the bottom of the 9th.
