Color Guard

Erik Landis is the Current commander of Canoga Park's Color Guard which is an elite group that has 4 to 6 people in one team. There are 3 flags: The American Flag, the Flag of your State, and one for the branch of military you are in. Two rifleman are the guardians of the flags and are sworn to protect it. The commander can either be the bearer of The American Flag or one of the rifleman. The Color Guard has to execute movements like "Right Wheel, Left Wheel, Round About, and Reverse Colors" so that they can be facing the appropriate direction. The rifleman of the Color Guard will either be at right shoulder arms or at port arms so that when they present arms they will look very sharp. During a competition, they present to an audience and are judged on how sharp they execute every move and on how well they can keep their bearing.

Color Guard not only reperesents the school the R.O.T.C. is from but it also shows that you have a great amount of respect for the state and for the country. In the Color Guard, the flag bearers wear a harness which allows them to carry the flags. When they "present arms" the State and the (military branch) Flags go down at the same time to about 45 degrees; they count about six mississippi's so that they know when to stop at 45 degrees. The Flagmen need to make sure that they are going at the same rate and are doing it very sharp. The rifleman then do their "present arms". When they "order arms", the two flags come up and the two rifleman order their rifles and go back up to "shoulder arms" or "port arms" depending on what the commander wants to do. Before and after a performance they must cover up the rifles and the flags.
