I Remember I Remember

I remember the D-backs
Of the year 2001
Watching Unit and Schilling pitch
Was ever so much fun

Though the Yanks won three at home
In the dark of the night
This powerful pitching duo
Made sure they lost the fight

I remember, vividly
Rivera’s fateful inning
Before he seemed invincible
Now his team’s no longer winning

I remember Gonzo’s bat
I won’t forget his swing
The ball dropped softly into left
Dethroning the thrice crowned kings

I remember the words said
By the Yank fans, young and old
“This loss of ours was but a fluke
Next year we will not fold!”

I remember Anaheim
In 2002
They had no business being there
The upstarts had no clue

Suddenly with some power,
Determination and speed,
Glaus, Eckstien, Rodriguez,
And Percival decreed:

The Yankees luck ends here
Their time on top is through
Go back to New York
And take your payroll with you

I wish I could remember
When the Yanks were last upset
In the ALCS
By the Royals led by Brett

I am not a Red Sox fan
I'm a Phils fan born and bred
But I too know of suffering
My team, too, has bled

But of this I am certain
Though the outcome once looked gray
Game Seven has arrived
Today's a brand new day

Everyone must recognize
What was once difficult to conceive
It’s the Red Sox time to shine
In this, I do Believe.
