Stimulating the Kidneys
"After you have stretched the body and toes and exercised the face, sit or stand up. (This exercise may also be practiced in a prone position for those who are bedridden.) Rub the hands together vigorously to get the energy flowing to the palms and fingers. Place the palms on the small of the back. Keep the upper body tilted slightly forward. Feel as well as imagine the energy and heat flowing from the hands into the back and kidneys. Then massage the small of the back by rubbing up and down and then in a circular motion across the back. Next, clench the fingers together to form two fists and hit the small of your back with the back of your hands. Pummel the area softly for a few seconds. Then repeat the rubbing and pummeling action three times. This exercise should be done in the morning or whenever there is lower back pain.
"The exercise stimulates the adrenal glands and the kidneys, which lie directly behind the small of the back. Lower back pain is often caused by a weakness in the kidneys. Two factors which help to weaken the kidneys are drinking an excess of liquids and standing on the feet for prolonged periods. By practicing this exercise you will be strenthening, energizing and healing the kidneys and the adrenals, and thus by association, you will be curing lower back problems as well as strenghtening the eyes (as the kidneys are connected with the eyes). This pose also helps keep the skin smooth and beautiful and encourages strong sexual feelings by energiszing the glandular system." *
