Who can join? Network Scouts is the oldest “youth” section in Scouting, and as already mentioned is designed for young people between the ages of 18 – 25.
Whilst the usual route for people joining Network is from Explorer Scouts, there is no reason why somebody from outside Scouting can not join.
In deed we are currently exploring methods of attracting new members from the local universities within East Sussex.
What do you do at Network Scouts ? The answer to this question lies mostly within the imagination of the Network Members themselves. The Network programme is organised and run locally by the Network Scouts. This local programme is then supplemented by the programme run by other Network units, the County programme, as well as the National and International
Programme. All programmes run by the Network units should be “open book” with
Network members from other units being invited to join in.
Who runs the local Network group? The really simple answer to this question is “you do”. Or to be more specific the members of the Network group themselves. As Network Scouts are between the ages of 18 and 25 they are deemed to be adults in their own right. They don’t need, and more to the point they don’t want “some old fuddy duddy” telling them what to do all the time, or continuously peering over their shoulder.
There is a local area leader, or to use their proper title, County Scout Network Area Leader (or CSNAL from here on in, hope that’s OK). The CSNALs roll is to provide a point of contact for the Network Scouts, so that they have someone to go to when they need assistance or advice.
How much contact you have with the CSNAL will largely
depend on how well your programme is running and how many members there are in your network unit.
As the members are deemed to be adults in their own right they do not need a “leader” in the traditional sense, instead from their own numbers, they vote in a “Co-ordinator”, and if deemed necessary a Treasurer and a Secretary.
How do i join? The first thing you need to do is to get yourself registered so that the County Network team know about you.
This can be done by down loading this info pack, and filling in the ofrm at the back or you can complete the form below.
If you are an Explorer Scout then your District Explorer Scout
Commissioner (DESC) should have the necessary forms as well. if you have any questions, feel free to contact one of the leaders listed on the contacts page.
