Last night, in the waning days of September, the heat went on for the first time. The burning bush is beginning to turn crimson, the walnut leaves a deep golden ocher, and the wind off the river has a snap in it, brisk and sharp.

I am baking a chocolate cake to take to dinner with the Machiss' tonight. The aroma is sensual and exciting. The warmth from the oven even better, a comforting hug on this Sunday afternoon in autumn. This morning I went back to the art fair. I had to. I was still dreaming on that Westgard etching, the one with a woman stranded on a tiny atoll in the middle of the ocean, behind her all hell is breaking loose, a plane is spiraling into the water, a ship is on fire, and some random flotsam and jetsam is floating away. The woman is save though; she is leaning on a well-rooted tree (it looks like a mighty oak, peculiar for an island) it is titled, "I Wish You Were Here." I must have it.

Yesterday I bought a Mary Burke piece. It is an abstract drawing. It speaks to me in a foreign language that I feel I must listen to and begin to understand. I adored her large works but they started at $900, so not in my budget for now. I am satisfied with my purchase. I will place it on the art rail and dream the dreams it sends my way.

Oh! And I did win one of yesterday's raffles. And guess what I chose? A new wood sculpture by John! I had to. I adore his work. This one is about 4 ½ feet tall and it is a blonde. It is outstanding. I love the way John takes a piece of fallen wood and makes it soooooooo smooth and glistening. It is a testament to our planet, a blessing from Mother Earth.

I do love art very much. It opens me up and makes me sing.

Try it. Swallow some down and see what places you might go.
