Godspeed, you black emperor!

Godspeed, you black emperor! are possibly one of the greatest collections of musicians on the planet. Hailing from Montreal, Canada, GYBE! consist of nine members (although it has been known to reach 15) and were formed by guitarist Efrim and bassist Mauro in 1993. The first album released by gybe! was limited to only 33 copies and was called "All lights fucked up on the hairy amp drooling". Obviously this is extremely rare and the first album released properly was 1998's F#A#oo (F sharp A sharp infinity), an amazing album with the standout tracks "The Dead Flag Blues", "The Sad Mafioso" and "Kicking horse on Broken Hill". The next album they released was called "Lift your Skinny Fists like antennas to heaven" and was released in 2000.

Levez Vos Skinny Fists Comme Antennas to Heaven!

This picture was contained in the inlay for the "Lift yer skinny fists..." album. The album cover and box itself was made out of cardboard and the artwork was done by William Schaff ( check out his stuff at http://www.fortunate-accident.org/samsa). I really like the artwork in this album as I think it reflects GYBE!'s views on anti globalization.

F#A#oo

F#A#oo is definitely one of my favourite albums of ALL time. At first glance you see the album has three tracks, and that it is an album of instrumentals. What you realise is that it is one complete sound, with no boundaries to be broken, as F#.. destroys all known boundaries. The depressing yet beautiful "Dead Flag Blues" with one of the most memorable monologues ever recorded. "The Sad Mafioso" will now constantly remind me of the film "28 days later" because of it's usage at the start of the film. I highly recommend this album to ANYONE who has a remote interest in music (and I mean music, not shite)
