Setup Tools & Techniques To Streamline Animation on a Character Heavy Production.
This seminar showed how to use Maya to develop tools and techniques for managing large amounts of character-specific information. The presentation covered three main subjects:
- A MEL based database to store information about characters, which can then be accessed by Maya to perform a variety of tasks.
- A UI (User Interface) builder developed to give animators a specific UI for each creature instead of having one generic template.
- A Jiggle routine that can be applied to a transform instead of geometry, which significantly reduced the simulation load for character TDs as the jiggle is accomplished during animation, not after.
