2004 Awards of Distinction Winners Announced

The North-American Interfraternity Conference is proud to announce the winners of the 2004 Awards of Distinction.  These awards recognize the overall leadership and excellence in the advancement of fraternity ideals. The people and groups being recognized have proven that they advance the ideals of fraternity in their every day lives and have worked to ensure the future of fraternities by living their espoused mission and values.

The awards are presented in three categories:  Undergraduate, Chapter, and Alumnus.  Nominations are made by fraternities, campus advisors, and undergraduates.  The number of nominations this year exceeded all previous year’s nominations, according to Jon Williamson, NIC Executive Vice President.

The 2004 individual Undergraduate Award of Distinction winners include two student body presidents, four IFC presidents, a resident assistant, and a varsity athlete and all are outstanding scholars.   Six of the seven men have also served as their fraternity’s chapter president.

The winners are:
Phillip J. Caposey, Eastern Illinois University, Lambda Chi Alpha
William Christopher Cook, Jacksonville State University, Kappa Alpha Order
Rodrigo Duarte, Florida International University, Sigma Phi Epsilon
Zackary David Edwards, Texas Tech University, Theta Chi
Sanoop Luke, Emory University, Alpha Tau Omega
Justin Shafer, University of Cincinnati, Sigma Phi Epsilon
Aaron Siders, Kansas State University, Delta Upsilon

The 2004 Undergraduate Chapter Award of Distinction winners include chapters with histories from 100 years to three years; chapters with 50 members to 150 members.  All have achieved academic and recruitment success and have active alumni involvement.

The winners are:
Alpha Tau Omega, University of North Alabama, Theta Eta Chapter
Beta Theta Pi, Miami University-Ohio, Alpha Chapter
Delta Chi, Georgia Tech University, Georgia Tech Chapter
Pi Kappa Phi, Colorado University, Eta Gamma Chapter
Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Iowa State University, Iowa Gamma Chapter

The 2004 Alumni Awards of Distinction honor a CPA/Insurance Executive, a University President, and a past Association of Fraternity Advisors president.

The winners are:
Rhen C. Bass, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Neal R. Berte, Sigma Alpha Epsilon
Charles W. Warner, Beta Theta Pi

The winners will receive their awards at the NIC Annual Meeting Black Tie Dinner on Sunday, April 25, 2004 in Washington DC.  “We are excited to honor these men for their dedication to their fraternity, for their commitment to the greater good of fraternities, and for their interfraternal spirit,” said Williamson.  “They deserve our honor and recognition,” he added.

Kappa & General Motors
Brothers, Friends, Family...

As most of you know Kappa has entered into a unique arrangement with General Motors.

For every new car purchased or lease by Kappas, Friends or Family, the fraternity receives $100.00 to support our various programs through

The Foundation, nationally, provincially and locally. Hopefully, you all saw the great promotional piece in the last Journal and remember the push at the Conclave.

We need your help.  So please Brothers, think General Motors when buying your cars.  GM brands include Cadillac, Hummer, Chevrolet, GMC, Saturn, Saab,

Pontiac, Buick and Oldsmobile.  This deal applies to all vehicles including the Escalade, Denali, CTS, Grand Prix, Avalanche, Envoy, Cavalier, and H2 etc.

Let's do our part to give back to the bond.

In order to continue the program and secure future benefits from GM, we
must "step it up"  with the "Steppin Up with GM & Kappa" Program.

Please pass the information on.  Further details can be obtained from
checking our website: www.gm.com/Kappa.

Now the odds are even better this month at winning a new car --- probably about
1 in 5000!  All you have to do is stop by a GM dealer  and push the designated
OnStar button for a  chance to win a new vehicle.  For more details visit
http://www.gm.com/vc/hotbutton/index.html.

We thank you for your support and remember, your brand new GM Vehicle is waiting for you.
