Today I built mounting brackets for the gas tank and trunk decking supports.
I also trimmed the old metal away from the bottom of the coup top supports, cleaned the supports, and then primed the inside, an area that was not painted in the factory.

Work space is very limited for me, so I had to makeshift a workbench out of a small peice of OSB and wedge it in between my parts storage drawers. Hey, it works!

I used 18 gauge steel cut to 1 1/4" strips. Next comes the bending.

An old bracket. Originally I thought I would cut the old ones out and re-use them, but in the end I opted to just build new ones. Leaving the old ones on the old tub allowed me to have exact measurements available. They were also heavily painted and rusty.

Multiple brackets after bending but before welding in the captive nuts.

This bracket is just tac-welded for fitting. I got it right the first time for once! No moving required.

The original brackets only had a hole with a speed nut. I opted to weld in a captive nut on the bottom side.

Here I have trimmed the un-needed metal from the bottom of the support. (center of the photo). It was coated with surface rust so I stripped it as best as I could and painted it with Rustoleum rust converting primer. No experience with this product so I have my fingers crossed. (Yes I know it's running. It will not be visible at all once the top is welded in place. Don't expect me to leave runs where it counts.
