Today I mostly just cleaned up the coup top. I removed the remains of the old lower valance. I also trimmed up the window pillars where they meet the top of the B-pillars. Unfortunately I need to remove more of the old metal. Good thing I left too much instead of removing too much.
I also removed the fuel tank mounting bracket and the striker mount. I will build new ones but depending on how they turn out I may refurbish the old ones and use them.

The back end has some dents and two holes, due from being rear-ended too many times and it was creased, subsequently rusted through. Hopefully I can repair the holes and not cause extra damage or extra work.

The striker mounting bracket removed. A little bit of rust, but not too bad.

Views of the brackets. I plan on building new ones, but I may use these, depending on how things turn out.

These are the locations on the right and left hand sides where the window posts meets the B-pillars. They need to be be trimmed closer to fit.

The back end now matches. I'm getting closer.

This is the $100 question:
See the layers of color above and to the right of the tail-light mount? The light and dark orange bands are some sort of body filler or glazing. Someone stripped the entire top down to the bare metal and coated it with two coats of this stuff, to the tune of 1/8" thick. then threre are two entirely different coats of paint on top of that.
The question is, why would anyone use so much body glazing? I have not yet found a spot where this is coated that had any blemishes that actually require it. Whoever did this undoubtably kept the Bondo company in business for that year...
