Building more brackets. As you can see the old ones, though possibly salvagable, are heavily painted with varying degrees of rust and possbily bent

The old hatch striker peice is on the left. You can see how bent it is from being rear-ended.

Here I have the new bracket laid out on 18ga steel and partially cut out.
The other two brackets are gas tank mount brackets. I will weld the captive nuts on and then finish bending them.

Here I have the new bracket nearly complete. I still need to weld on two tabs and the peice inside that holds the captive thread plate the striker mounts to, although I will not weld the top to the sides until after I have the coup to properly mounted to the body. I'd rather only weld this together once.

I painted the inside portion of the coup top support pillars so as to get some protection on them. I'd rather not leave them bare to the elements like they were originally. This color is a close match, but no one will see it when complete anyway.

Just for kicks I painted the quarter panel to see what a large area painted will look like. I think this color will work.
Plans call for BMW Space Grey Metallic.
