Here I have removed the first angle bracket. Good thing too, look at the surface rust hiding.
Hole in the shelf for the brake master cylinder.
As viewed from inside the car; the dash and dash top have been removed. It's good time for this repair as it is now easy to access from both sides.
The dent and the hole in the wall for the larger reservoir. This will go.
In fact, you can see I have already started to work the dent out, see the heated area?
A little bit of progress; inside shot.
Just about there; as viewed from the engine bay.
I was contemplating leaving this angle bracket, but it was in the way of getting the dent flattened out properly.
It was also bent a little bit and there is some rust hiding as well, so off it came. I have 2 sets of these brackets refurbished and ready to install. I will use the set from my orginal tub because I would like to have as much of the orginal steel as possible.
Mostly done. You can see there is still a slight outward bow but it is not as noticeable. I need to patch that hole and maybe work the bow with a shrinking hammer--gotta get one first. It may not matter a whole lot as what bow will be there will be hidden between the tops of the angle brackets and behind the master cylinder. The dilema is this:an artist is his own worst critic-I know the dent is there and it may drive me nuts if I don't get rid of it.
Last picture, though not finished with the job.
You can see how much better it looks. The surface is pitted and nowhere smooth. I will try and get it as smooth as I can, but this area will probably be recipient of filler glaze on the outside surface.
