Nick and Paris’ relationship went through many ups and downs over its seven month course. Here are just a few articles that documented the tumultuous love.
Paris and Nick’s Grocery Spree : US Weekly (03-01-04)
Is new boyfriend Nick Carter bringing out Paris Hilton’s domestic side? The hotel heiress, 23, and Backstreet Boy, 24, left the comfort of his Hollywood Hills home for a trip to Ralphs supermarket in Hollywood on February 9. But to judge by what they purchased, they don’t seem ready to cook up any elaborate dinners just yet. For one thing, “they got tons of cereal,” says an eyewitness. And the lovebirds haven’t completely abandoned their pampered ways – Ralphs employees helped them load their bags into Carter’s Cadillac Escalade. (Perhaps confused by the bling-free scene, Hilton’s Chihuahua, Tinkerbell, stayed in the car.) Why are they stocking up? Carter says he’s a couch potato at heart. “I’m not really the kind of guy who likes to go out all the time,” he told US in the middle of the Clive Davis pre-Grammy party in Beverly Hills on February 7. “I’m a stay-at-home kind of guy.” Then he quickly added, “But you can’t always stay at home, because that’s boring.”
Paris and Nick’s Rocky Romance : US Weekly (06-28-04)
They’re one of Hollywood’s stormiest couples. But despite serious “trust issues,” Nick Carter and The Simple Life 2’s Paris Hilton keep on clicking.
On June 9, just days after returning from Australia, where she filmed the horror remake House of Wax, Paris Hilton was back on the party scene, and in the arms of boyfriend, Nick Carter. The two hit Hollywood’s Concorde club, where they cuddled and kissed. But after a few hours, Carter, 24, headed to the nearby Spider Club with pals, leaving Hilton, 23, alone. But she wasn’t solo for long: By the end of the night, the heiress was seen cozying up to an ex-boyfriend, model Jason Shaw. “They were in the corner the whole night,” an eyewitness tells Us of the pair, who left together in Shaw’s car. “I don’t know if they were making out, but they were all over each other.”
Another night in the confusing romance of Hilton and her Backstreet Boy. In fact, the following evening, the couple were seen making out at the hot spot the Sunset Room. “They could break up on Friday and be back together on Sunday,” says a friend of Hilton’s. “She’s a professional flirt.” But that doesn’t mean Hilton’s dalliances with other guys (she was spotted holding hands with Shaw at Concorde in March) hasn’t taken its toll. “It’s been really hard on Nick,” says a close Carter pal. “She put that boy through the ringer.”
Together since they met in December, Hilton and Carter’s relationship has weathered frequent breakup rumors --- the most recent surfacing around Memorial Day. “She is super high-maintenance,” Carter’s pal told Us at the time, adding that there were “trust issues.” But another friend told Us, “They are figuring things out. They want to make things work.”
Indeed, in the end, Carter always takes her antics in stride. Although he supposedly fumed as she cozied up to Nicolas Cage at a Golden Globes after-party on January 25, three days later, at the 24th birthday party Hilton threw for him, he told Us, “I’m not a jealous guy. I let her do what she does.” The reason? “He loves her,” the singer’s brother Aaron, 16, tells Us, adding, “I think she is a great girl.” Hilton’s mother, Kathy, also approves of the relationship.” He seems really nice, very sweet,” she tells Us. And attentive: He showered her with care packages while she was away filming The Simple Life 2:Road Trip. “I sent flowers,” he tells Us. “She got some [pet] ferrets, so I sent her a card with a ferret on it saying, ‘We miss you.’”
It’s a sentiment Carter, who seems more interested in spending time with Hilton than finishing the Backstreet Boys comeback CD, may have to grow used to. Along with Hilton’s expanding TV and film resume, she’s working on her own line of jewelry, modeling in the new Guess? Ads and releasing her debut single, “Screwed,” on July 1. As for her romantic future, she has equally big plans, but she’s keeping her options open. “I hope to marry by [my mid-twenties] and have a family,” she tells Us, adding, “I have no idea who it will be with. Don’t know if it will be Nick or not.”
