The Border Reivers
Welcome to the Border Reivers
- Welcome hearty adventurer...I am WolfStag, Chieftain of this savage band of merry kinsmen! Well met and Honor in life to you! Have you the cravings for adventure? The lustings for times gone-by, arms and armor, warriors, test's of ferocity and challenges of might? Well welcome then, we greet thee!
-
- Come join times of high adventure as Our fighters re-enact battles of glory upon the field and firelit nights in a band of brothers as stories of might, murder, and mayem are re-called for enjoyment and amusement of those courageous enough to speak or listen!
-
- What are the Border Reivers?
- Good question, in history, the Border Reivers were a notorious band of Briggands in the highlands who were notorious for creating the word "Blackmail". To suit our purposes though, the "Border Reivers" are a high spirited household of stick fighters who practice midevial combat through the use of more "Body friendly" utensils...
- Although we are active in the Society for Creative Anachronisms, a wonderful worldwide re-enactment group whom we love dearly, and participate in feverously, Our household works outside SCA standards in our Household functions...and within all rules and regulations within SCA functions...if you would like more info on the SCA, please check their site below!
-
- The Border Reivers began more as a dream to closen the brotherhood of fighters, rather than bring about a brotherhood of Mercenaries. It is true that we are a dark-age Mercenary Household and that we will fight perferrably to the highest bidder. But this is due to the Pride we hold in our warriors prowress! There are many problems to be expected with belonging to such a household, one of which is the acting Nobles looking upon you as a rogue, greedy and full of cock-suredness! Greedy....Yes! Cocksure...Well, all of the great fighters had to be! SO moving to the point, Our warriors strive to be the best they can, and are encouraged to do so!
-
- What should one expect by becoming a member of our household? Well, what we hope to expect is to be a part of something! To be backed by someone, taught by someone! Too many times Newcomers to Society events, show up, alone and out of the excitement. If their is any doubt to our commitment to this, just remember our Motto...A Mene Er A Bli...to dream is to be!
-
- Borders!......Every Kingdom has them. Sometimes they are the most neglected areas of a kingdom, those lands that are to close to other Borders, and the hardest for the whole to reach. If we want the household to thrive, we, as members, need to visit those little forgotten towns, to spark interest!
-
- What is the way that we expect of our warriors? To strive and be the best you personally can be, with every weapon and style. then pass that on as best you can to the newbies, train them to train themselves and others. We want well rounded warriors, it is true that the perfect warrior is the one that devotes themself to the mastery of all styles of one weapon, but one weapon never seems to adjust to all style's of varied weapon combat!
-
- The ideal principal is to learn as much as we can about everything combat related! But to remember to sharpen art's and science skills as well, also remembering to better our leadership and armor making skills in the pursuit Know the Kingdom in which you fight, and their rules and regulations. Know the rules of the list and the Marshal's in charge of the field. Sergeants should work to be Marshal's, for the good of the clan and their own promotional image! We want all of our Household to be as Knowledgeable as possible! We are teachers and students...that should never change!.
-
- Camping, we all have to do it! As a household, camp together. There are benefits to a house camp...other than great parties! 1. Someone is almost always in camp. Thereby, someone is almost always watching over the camp. Be friendly...help others get their tents up and running, save them some time! Help...If you can, with getting the armor and weapons to the field. Set up boundry lines and torches...Offer to cook for camp for an evening...offer to help watch children for those with agenda's...Offer to walk with someone now and then...just be friendly!
-
- Children...Too often a member feels as though they are constantly concerned about what their child is up to while they are at list, or in a class? The lucky ones have a sitter to confide in, But sometimes that just isnt possible! We push to involve the children...are they old enough to Arms Bare, and understand the dangers of the field? Are they old enough to be Ladies helpers...and watch other children? It is our duty to teach our children, it is too our duty to allow them to enjoy themselves as we do so! We try and make it at easy as possible.
- To follow are descriptions and titles within the household:
-
- Page...The page is an important part of the household. The page is a runner, a go-for an extra set of hands for the cooks and warriors. Page is broken into two sets, Warriors page, and ladies Page! Both can be male or female, but their duties depend on their path!
-
- Arms Bare.....More than a warriors helper, the Arms Bare learns how to make armor, learns the rules of the list, learns tactics...they are warriors in the making! The Arms Bare should strive to always be there for a warrior, ready to provide drink, ready to provide and move weapons and armor.
-
- Karl.....karls make up the bulk of any household, setting out to prove their worth on the battlefield, to earn a reputation to spread through the house and the world! As a Karl...your duty is to learn, and apply what you learn. Make your own armor, learn your weapons and their functions. Learn how to be hospitable, honorable, and courtious.
-
- Stryker...Strykers have proven their prowress to the household, and are ready to show their honor and ability on the field! By their oath of fairness and loyalty, they earn their namesake as sword and enforcer of the chieftain. The Stryker can be noted by the club he carries, a reminder of his duties in times gone by!
-
- Valkyr...The newest position of the house. The Valkyr is a Stryker of the feminine persuasion. She is un-shaking in the presence of her opponants, eager to punish any who would be foolish enough to hesitate at the thought of fighting a woman. More than happy to mark an opponant who would attempt to punish her for the same! Valkyr can be noted by the winged arm badge she wears.
-
- Sergeants...The barking word and sword of the chieftain! Their duty to the liuetenants and thier chieftain is to repeat commands on the field, recruit new household blood off the field And catch the eye's of the liuetenants by being ferocious cambatants in the tournament and the frey. Sergeants need to be able to spot troubled areas on the field and correct them in a moments notice. A Sergeant can be noted by his dagger and flogger he bares!
-
- Liuetenant...The arm, the sword, and the shield of the Chieftain...They have worked hard and long to be were they are, on and off the battlefield! Their rule of conduct: Be glorious in combat, honorable in life! You lead on and off the field, you extend the warmth and hospitality of your household, to loners on the field, by offering them your shield wall, or the stranger in the night, extending the warmth of your fire! They are second only to the Chieftain and Chieftess, Liuetenants bare the blue, ringed baldric, dagger and flogger!
-
- BEARPACK.....the hunt and kill unit of the household, made up of a liuetenant, two Sergeants, and two to four specially trained Stykers or Karls who volunteer to seek their elders votes for advancement. The Bearpack hits hard, fast, doing as much damamge as possible, then moves quickly to another target! Each Lieutenant is urged to start a Bearpack!!!
-
- Lady in waiting..... they have been recognised for their commitment to the house and thier Chieftess! they are important functioning Matrons who are eager to perform the challenging duties of keeping things in line. aiding in dressing the new, and helping in entertaining the children of the house.
-
- First Lady...seconds to the Chieftess. Her walking word when she is away. The First lady can be noted by the Beaded, braided Baldric she wears. Thier duties include, aiding the chieftess, making favors for the house, and aiding in the householde events by providing thier thoughts and feelings.
-
- Chieftain...the household is ruled by a Chieftain and Chieftess of his choosing. They are the deciding voice of the household, All views and complaints find their way to the Chieftain, doing away with all the "Behind the back" bickering!
-
- Shadow weaver...lets face it...in their day assassinations were quite common place. Poisons, stealth Subterfuge were all an art in their own. Our Shadow weaver, if He/she existed, is a mystery to everyone save the chieftain. If you wish to contract an assassination, for the right amount of booty you might be able to negotiate...but dont be suprised if the Chieftain acts like he has no clue as to what you're talking about!!!
