Chapter 9
Landing Gear & Landing Brake

Landing Brake

Construction of the landing brake seemed simple enough, cut it out, work some magic, glue it back. In reality is a little more complex than that. Cutting a straight line through the glass without going into the foam is the first difficulty that I had. I used a small dove tail saw, and a lot of time to free the brake from it's captive location on the belly. After removing the brake the rest of the operations were fairly simple. But, even simplicity gets the better of me in this case. I didn't let the brake cure on a flat surface so when all was said and done, my brake is warped about 1/10" on one side. I will use some aluminum angle and a heat source to reheat and hopefully remove the warp. Later Note: The reheat and aluminum angle worked great for eliminating the warped edges. It took several attempts to make it acceptable (from my standpoint), and a lot of clamps.
