Things That Are Written In The Contract And Amended Contract That Are Different Or Were Never Done
All Of These Item’s Are Still Unresolved As Of January, 19
2001
First I should let it be known that the contractor
that was doing the work (Tom Shrive) was not given the papers from Northeastern
to show what was to be done to the home until after the back deck
was already installed. At this point all roofing was done, as well as all the
soffit and fascia work except where shown in the photos. This just another
prime example of the disorganization and confusion that runs rampant in this
so-called reputable company. It even came to the point that Tom had to go to my
father’s home to review his copy of the papers. Yet things are still screwed
up.
All statements below can be viewed on the
documents page on copies from Northeastern’s OWN paperwork.
1.
Item
#3 on contract page one states that any damaged lumber around the windows will
be replaced. See windows pictures.
2. Item #9 on contract page 2 states that “Adjust the corner block pillar”. When B.J. was looking at the property he was told that there was a root cellar under the porch and that the existing block walls were unstable (also this was pointed out by the codes inspector for Camp Hill Boro BEFORE Northeastern was contacted) this was one of the main reasons for repairs being necessary to the home. I offered to show him the underside and root cellar several times, which is easily accessible thru a door in the basement he was not interested yet this would be the cause of a $11,869.00 increase in the job cost. My father was also present at the time.
3.
Item
#10 contract page 2 states that the new front and rear porch roofs will be
shingled. “The shingles will be antique slate in color”.
They both have rubber roofs as of this date.
4.
Item
#12 on contract page 2 states that the existing pantry roof will be replaced
with a rubber roof. That would leave TWO separate roofing systems at the rear
of the home. They were made into one as a convenience. I had repeatedly told Tom
as to what the contract stated and that we were to have a pad pored for the
grill in front of the pantry. Instead we have a 2’ wide area of railed in porch
that is for all purposes, useless.
5.
Item
#14 contract page 2 “We will
clean up and haul away all job debris”. Look at the pictures page. There is still
materials and trash in my yard as of this date. I had to repair damage to the
yard, backfill and level the yard to grade. Replant and seed the grass. Clean
up materials left ALL over the backyard. Reseed the backyard and consolidate
their left over materials in one place. I also had to clean up and throw away
their trash, including soda cans, iced tea bottles, many Coors Beer bottle caps
(where they came from is anyone’s guess I have not drank in 4 years and keep NO
alcohol on the property).
6.
Item
#16 contract page 2 states that we will be covered in a 5-year warranty plan.
We were told that this included having Northeastern treat the new porch and
deck once a year for the next 5yrs.
7.
We
have not received any copies of any type of warranty.
8.
Item
#2 of the amended contract states that “We will remove the existing rear
support wall”, it is under the porch, the top layer of block was knocked off to
allow room for the deck joists.
9.
Item
#5 in the amended contract states that the new deck shall have three
exits. I have been looking for almost ten months and I’ll be dammed if I can
find the third one.
10.
Item
#6 in the amended contract states that the porch roof will be shingled to match
that of the house. Funny, this is the second time that they have said
shingles (shingles come in heavy flat bundles guys, rubber is on a
roll). I thought I might let them know since it seams that they do not know
the difference.
11.
Item
#7 on the amended contract never even came close to happening. It states that
“We will construct a 4x6 concrete pad that will be directly behind the pantry
and even with the deck.
12.
Item
#8 is had to decipher but from the conversations we had with B.J. I understand
it to state that, we will clean the surface (of the deck) and finish
as to my specifications. As I said before B.J. said they would treat the
deck upon completion and once a year for every five years.
I have given up hope of resolving this in a peaceful manner, my main purpose for this web site is to protect other consumers from this company.
