Like Karone, Ryan Mitchell was taken from his family when he was a small child and was raised to be evil. It happened on a rainy night when he, his father William Mitchell, and his little sister, Dana, were coming home from a visit with Ryan and Dana's grandmother. The Mitchell family car went off the road and plunged to the bottom of a tall cliff. Will Mitchell was able to get his children out of the car before it hit the bottom but ended up hanging onto an old root with one hand while holding Dana in the other. Poor little Ryan was left hanging on to his dad's shoe, which is slowly slipping off his foot. Mitchell calls for help and gets it from the ghost of the demon Diabolico. But in exchange for saving Ryan's life, Diabolico wants to keep him. Mitchell reluctantly agrees just his son is plunging downward. Despite all of Mitchell's pleadings refuses to give the boy back and says that Mitchell will never see him again until he turns twenty.
For fifteen years (more or less) Diabolico trained Ryan to be an evil warrior that would someday help him return Queen Banshera to her palace. He told Ryan that his father never loved him and would have let him die to save Dana if Diabolico hadn't saved him. This lie stirred up a deep hatred in Ryan's heart for his father and sister and made him determined to destroy them both. Finally when Ryan turned twenty, Diabolico sent Ryan to sneak into the Lightspeed Aquabase and steal the experimental Titanium morpher. Ryan succeeded in his mission and used the powers of the Titanium Ranger to try and destroy Dana and the other Lightspeed Rangers. But Dana and Captain Mitchell were able to help him see the truth: that they did love him and that Mitchell tried to save both of his children that night on the cliff.
Soon after, Ryan joined the Lightspeed Rangers in their fight against the demons. Diabolico wasn't too happy about his student turning against him so, he put a cobra tattoo on Ryan's back that would slither up his body until it reached his neck and killed him. Because of this Ryan was kept out of action unless his help was desperately needed. Luckily, he was soon able to destroy the cobra by going to the demon's tomb and destroying the cobra statue.
Later, after stopping Queen Banshera from regaining her full bodily form, Ryan decided to leave Lightspeed and try to find a way to recapture the demons. His search led him to a golden key that revealed to him Banshera's plot to bring back all of her dead monsters. Ryan shared this info with his fellow Rangers just before Banshera captured him. Ryan was later rescued by Carter and was able to help the Rangers defeat Banshera once and for all. What's in store for Ryan now that his demon destroying days are over? Only time will tell.
When he's not evil, Ryan is unselfish, kind, determined, brave, and has a strong sense of both loyalty and family. (And yes he is fairly handsome.) He's #3 on my best male Rangers of all time list.
