The Truth Behind School Uniforms

As many of you know many schools have been trying to create a safer enviroment for the students. While safety is important, the way they go about the process is ridiculous. For many schools the answer is school uniforms, but they do not solve any problems. Uniforms do exactly what they say, make everyone uniform and don't allow for differences among people. Everyone looks the same, therefore everyone will act the same. We all know that this is not possilbe, and uniforms can often take away from creativity, spontaneity, and uniquenesses. Unfortunately, despite what the Constitution states, All Men Are NOT created equal. If all men were created equal then there would be no need for competition or world records.

Take the incident at Columbine for example. . . Would uniforms have prevented the situation which occured here? Of course not, there was little anyone could have done to prevent the situation. The problem is simply that kids like to agitate those who are not as well off as they are. The "popular" ones will always torment those who are not, regardless of dress. In order to seem "cool" a student will pick on a kid who is not in the in crowd. Life is terrible like this and nothing will ever change, which is why the "Age of Purity" makes sense.

I must also bring to your attention a well known even called the Holocaust. The NAZIs wanted a "perfect" race consisting of people who look and act exactly the way they felt they should. Anyone who was different was put to death. In turn the schools are doing essentially the same thing, they make everyone dress the same and if a student refuses to do so, he or she is suspended and sent home until they wear the proper uniform. Although the schools do not kill anyone they are no better than the NAZIs for forcing people to conform. Conformity is not a right and is not required by any citizen of any country. Yet, people find it easier to conform, because it is easier to avoid confrontation that way. All I have to say is stand up for what you believe in and be proud of you convictions. Don't be afraid to argue against the popular opinion and realize that the school board or government doesn't have all the right answers. Uniforms aren't the answer and let everyone know.
