A Tribute to Drew

I was going to write a poem, but I couldn't find anything that rhymed with "horses", except "courses" which didn't really seem to fit anywhere. Poor Drew. Devoted father, husband, son. An outstanding neighbour, a great friend, mechanic, lanternjaw and scotsman. Drew was a modest sort, so modest, infact, that we had almost forgotten his passion for horses and his unique ability to ride them (until the end of course!) - but his final visit to his father's ranch reminded us just what a superhero our country boy truly was. At times it seemed like there was nothing he could not do. In that sense, his death is almost a relief to us, reminding it, as it does, that even on Neighbours no one is infinitely powerful.

At this delicate time, our hearts go out to Libby and Ben, but not to his father, who was completely unmoved by the circumstances of his son's death. Nor indeed to "Dougle", who didn't appear in today's episode at all. Although there is nothing we can say to make Libby feel better, we can at least hope she is consoled by the thought that, now, Drew will never find out that he is not Ben's real father. The ever present threats to Libby, from other women, have been buried with Drew, so she can perhaps be a little fortified by the thought that she no longer has to watch out for the advances of Steph, Summer, etc.

We will cry, but we will laugh too. Remember when Drew went to Stuart's fancy dress party as Ali G?! He was a card. And that song he sang at the wedding! Young Nina could learn a lesson or two from him.

Perhaps you feel you would like to use my guestbook, for a while, as a consolatory forum. Share your grief: you are not alone. Sign side by side in the book, stand together. With a little understanding, we can find the perfect blend.

That's when good neighbours become good friends.
