 "Syrian Dewlaps"

by Dan Konen & Ulrich Reber
(extract from "A Rare Man & His Rare Gift To America- APJ Dec.'83)

"A large heavy breed, the size of our larger Racing Homers, they
are all black w.f. with blaze. They are the fastest known nosedivers,
coming down upon signal from great heights in excess of 130 mph. They
do not spin, but dive in the manner of a falcon, so fast that they're
hard to follow with the eye. The roar of their stoop (dive) is so loud
that the inexperienced become fearful that they will crash on their
heads! But within a mere two yards of their loft roof they "venilate",
braking from their dive."
