How To Use The Telephone
Hello!
Okay This one is a gimme. I understand that most of you returned from school to an empty home. Your parents were too busy earning money so they could have that biggo-whamo lifestyle to bother being home for you. So it can’t be helped that you do not understand telephone etiquette.
Here are the basics:
1. When you call someone you introduce yourself. It goes like this: “Hello this is Roger Brightbulb.”
2. Then your add who you are trying to reach. “Could I speak to Mr. Rambleweed.” or more familiarly: “ Is John home?”
3. If you know the person that answered do not slight them. Be pleasant. Here’s an example: “Hi Judy. This is Roger. How’s everything going?” After a brief conversation ask for John, the person you originally called.
4. If you are a business calling a private individual you have no right to use their first name. Use an honorific such as Mr. or Ms.
5. If you are a telephone solicitor STAY OFF OF MY FREAKING HOME PHONE! I don’t buy junk or need any of your services!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Home is a sacred space. Get that in your head.
Good bye.
