This site is best viewed at 1024 x 764 resolution. This crazyness
was made by me (a.k.a. Chris Richman.) So
there isn't any confusion, I'm the guy who is typing all this stuff,
whether you cared to know that or not. Just thought I would tell you
nice people about that, so the "I" and "in my opinion" statements have a
tangible owner.
Updates and other news
April 25th 2004:
Finally an update has come about! Dystortion played two shows this
week, one at the Point After on Wednesday the 21st and one at the Royal
Grove on Thursday the 22nd. Despite equipment problems and a sick
lead singer, the shows went fairly well.
Also for any of you wondering there is some new news on the CD front,
although not what most of you may be thinking....we have decided to make a
3 or 4 track demo (yes another one) and possibly sell it, but most
definitely send it to labels and bars to get our name out a bit more.
And speaking of our name, we somewhat feel we have out-grown Dystortion,
plus there are quite possibly hundreds of bands out there with the same
name.....so, we are entertaining ideas for our new name. When we
decide to change it look for a whole new layout (if I get around to it,
haha) and hopefully a better flowing site.
Plus on a side note, we had a meeting today with a few of the local bands
and our promoter(s) to think of ways to make the Lincoln music scene more
appealing and bigger. Hopefully now there will be more shows and
more places to play....with possibly more all ages shows for us minors to
enjoy. But it all starts with the fans, so if you live in or around
Lincoln and want to continue hearing live music, get out there more and
support the local bands....we are nothing without you all.
December 12th 2003: There are
new pics
up from the Point After show on the 3rd, check them out.
December 4th 2003: The show at The
Point After last night was very wonderful. It was a good show for
us. LiquidStatic really rocked as well, I had a chance to talk to
them for awhile after the show, and they are very cool guys.
Hopefully in the future we will be able to play some more shows together.
We wish them the best of luck in the future. I added their website
to the links page, so go check them out and listen to some of their music.
November 6th 2003: Finally a
semi-new layout, SHOWS page, and much easier navigation!
We played a show in a town called Davey this last Saturday for a select
group of people (and by select I just mean the people who actually showed
up to watch us). It was a cold dreary night, but we made the most of
it and rocked the Town Hall! Looking back on what we've accomplished
as a band over the last few months is very cool. We've played 3
shows since August, 2 of them being at one of the bigger places to play in
Lincoln. This last show, despite some sound problems, I'm told, was
one of our best, and we keep improving. Look for a CD once we get
the money to pay for studio time.
Thank you to all of the people who come to listen to us every time, you
are a wonderful inspiration.
October 10th 2003: We have another
show!! For all of you who wanted to know. It is at the Royal
Grove yet again. It's on October 18th, $5 at the door, show starts
at 9pm. We are playing with some great local talent....Etched,
Descent and Forsake! Come check out 4 wonderfully spectaculous bands
next saturday, SATURDAY, SATURDAY!!
September 17th 2003: More
new pics
are up! They are a bit strange but then again, so are we, so try not
to hold it against us. I also made some Dystortion AIM buddy
icons....they aren't the best ever but that's what I get for staying up
all night working on them (2 of them are just different effects on the 2nd
one, lol...and that is where the lazyness set in).
Anyway enough of my chatter, here are
the icons....
12/16/02: Added
Old
News section as a place to put news that is clogging the arteries of
this page.
Welcome to the Realm of Dystortion
The guys of Dystortion.....(from left to right)
Josh (drums), Chris "Richman" (vocals), Chris
"Manning" (bass), John "Shakes" (guitar).
In the
summer of 2001 a group of guys got together in a garage in a small town
called Raymond, just a few miles north of Lincoln, Nebraska. Two of
them (Pat and Shakes) brought guitars with them and amps, while one had the
others help him with his trap set (Josh). I (Richman) brought along a
bass that I borrowed from the school and a small amp as well. And a
microphone came along with Josh. Three of us knew what we were
doing....with the exception of me. I knew nothing. After one
practice in the sweltering June heat we had already came up with a song,
later called "Trapped." Josh and I spent that whole night
trying to put words to the great song. Over the hot summer months,
pounds were sweated away and we practiced with utter disregard for my
neighbors ears. Haha. Eventually the whole project was relocated
to my basement due to weather and because it just seemed like a better idea,
where was that idea during June, July and August?? With my eventual
move to the downstairs, it became "the studio." We played
our first show at our High School (Raymond Central) for the talent
show. We got some good compliments after the show and eventually
played for a booster club banquet later on that same year. This summer
brought many changes however...
Eventually I tired of trying to
do something I was good at (bass) while I attempted to do something I wasn't
so good at that required more of my focus (singing). So I thought
about it and decided that I wanted to be the singer and do all I could to
make my skills the same level as the band's skills. Which was no easy
task...they are friggin amazing! But I realized that bass wasn't
getting the justice it deserved so I went out looking and eventually found
my friend Chris Manning laying on his couch in his house and asked him to
learn and then join us. So he joined us and picked up bass rather
quickly....he was extremely dedicated.
We practiced even harder after this and Josh
decided to see about getting us a show somewhere, so he got a hold of the
mayor of a local town called Davey and asked if we could play in their
hall. After some discussion it was a go! We practiced (not
enough in my opinion) up until our gig there. The weekend before the
concert however the rest of us got into an argument with Pat, and to make a
long story short we were left with 4 members.
Despite everything the concert went
fantastically! It was a great first real show for the band!
Since then we practice as often as possible and our skills keep improving,
individually and as a band. We recorded our first real demo on a 4
track digital recorder and had it made into a cd....we are even better now
than when we recorded that demo.....now we need better equipment. We
have a few new songs and are ready to get out and play more shows. So
now you know the rest of the story.
