growl!
I Think that every car I own has to have some weird story behind it, I never
can just go somewhere on a random day and find something of interest and buy it,
there always has to be some dramatic circumstances that have to occur before I
can get what I am after...This car was no expection.
On just a normal day I was pulling into the Chrysler dealership that I work at
when I noticed that there was a red Gen I Taurus SHO sitting outside in front of
the showroom so I, of course, had to inquire about it that day. When I got
the chance I asked about it and found out that it was a trade in and that it was
a 90....also I found out that they were asking $740 for it. I guess the
guy traded this car in for a Crossfire.
Anyway, I went through my normal thought processes about how I could get that
much money, and well it just didn't work out because I'm poor. So the
dealership I work at sold it to another dealership that buys a lot of cars
wholesale from us. I knew that they probably sold it for less than what
they quoted me for it (because that seems to be the way they operate...employees
pay a fixed amount on top of what they buy cars for). I found out that
they sold it for $500, so I asked if they could find out what the other
dealership wanted for it...and after a few days they let me know that the other
dealership would sell it to me for $500 as well. I went and talked to the
guys who had the SHO and I found out that one of the guys wanted to fix the car
up, but since he didn't really have the time he decided to sell it to me for
$500. I think that's why I got it for that price because he told me that
he was going to sell the car for $1500 if he decided not to fix it up. So
I gave him my 92
Mustang LX and paid $400 for the car.
So now I'm going to start fixing up the car. The things wrong with it
include: Key broke off in ignition (but it still starts), horrible exhaust
leak/corrosion, broken antenna (it goes about halfway up then flops over, haha),
broken headlight panel, no grille, semi-broken headlights, bad paint, dirty
interior (but in good shape actually), and some surface rust. So nothing
that can't be fixed, and fixed fairly inexpensively really.
As for the future of the SHO, I'm not really sure what I am going to do with it.
If I could make some money off of it fairly soon I may just do that, however I
know a guy who is going to school for diesel mechanics, so a turbo setup is
sounding mighty mighty nice right now...
I guess I will just start cleaning it up and see how attached I get to it, since
I've had it for a week basically now and I'm already not wanting to sell it.
Well here's some pictures....should have more soon once I start really tearing
into it.
