RayMon

Just a few short days ago we were able to snag the first set of screenshots to the Game Boy Advance version of Ubi Soft's upcoming platformer, Rayman. Today, we've grabbed more than another dozen shots of the GBA title in action – this is one game to really get excited about.

Mr. Dark, the game's nasty, nasty bad guy has kidnapped the inhabitants of the world -- Toons. These little guys are what give Rayman his energy – without 'em, he's just a weak, ordinary guy with no arms or legs. So it's off to trek the land to free the Toons from their cages, and then meet up with Mr. Dark in his secret lair for the final battle.

If you ever owned an Atari Jaguar, you know exactly what you're going to get – after all, the Atari Jaguar game was the only cartridge-based Rayman to exist. In the game, you control the game's hero – at the very beginning, he doesn't have all of his abilities. As you trek through the game's worlds, you earn powers that will help you along the way. Once earned, you can throw your fists, float around like a helicopter, grab onto rings in the air – Rayman is one versatile hero.

The Game Boy Advance version of Rayman is entirely based on the original game released on the PlayStation, Saturn, and Atari Jaguar system, slightly modified to take advantage of the smaller screen. Levels have been slightly due to Rayman's enormous size – so if the level calls for a leap to a hanging platform, you'll be able to see that platform instead of taking a less-than-dependable leap of faith. The game will feature more than 60 levels by the time it's done – and it will also feature a "capture the flag" mode for two players via a link cable and two Game Boy Advance systems.

Rayman has always been known for the surreal landscapes, incredibly smooth animations, and overall vibrant use of colors, and all this shines through on the Game Boy Advance – the system's advanced color palette and screen resolution seems to do the game more than ample justice in its portable form. The Game Boy Color version was pretty – the Game Boy Advance version is downright breathtaking.

Expect Rayman to ship on the launch of the Game Boy Advance system in the US. And if you haven't been following along like good boys and girls, that's June 11th.
