Note for May 30, 04: - Did a solo trip up Mount Cory today (May 30, 2004). 3:50 min ascent. 2:55 min descent. One of my top 5 favorite scrambles. It would be hard to get lost on this one, just follow the ridge from the highway to the summit. It took me 2 hours to get above treeline and into the plateau. Very windy day. The clouds were high at this point and I could see the first summit. Soon after treeline is where the snow and verglas started. After moving over a few of the moderate parts of the ridge, and finally topping out on what I thought was the summit, I realized that I was at the first of two summits. Nothing is worse than thinking your on the summit, then realizing your not quite there yet. The hike over to the second summit was not bad at all. The ridge was dressed with huge cornices so I traversed off the ridge a few times to thwart them. First ascent of 2004. The weather turned ugly so I ran back over to the first summit then descended the south ridge. 300Meters down, the clouds parted and the sun came out for a bit. Back at the car 2:55 mins from the summit.

Footprints

Looking over to the three peaks of Mount Edith.

A sketchy part of the ridge. The rock was iced with verglas and covered with snow.

The last section of the ridge before the south summit at top left.

Looking back along the south ridge.

This is looking back towards the south summit, on my way to the north summit.

On the north summit. Yea. The weather started turning bad here.

Snow formations on the rocks. I changed the hue on this picture, but you can see the verglas top left.

Looking across the valley and Trans-Canada to a peak unknown.
